| Why ? Why not make a camera that does colour and B&W just like the Fuji XPro1 ?. This $8000 is an insane price for a camera that has so many limitations and the price is for the body only. The only Leica that I would lust after is the Leica S2. It is superb but still horribly expensive.

| Yes I understood that removing the filters makes for a sharper and monochrome image but I do think that it is a strange to go for a full monochrome camera. Converting a camera to IR use is fine as that is a decision on a one off basis not a whole production run.

That's a lot of money for what used to be taken care of by inexpensive bulk b&w film using the same camera I could also use color film in. I think the world has gone mad!!

I haven't bought an M9 not so much because the price is insane, but be cause I felt the camera wasn't capable of doing what I thought it should.. At those prices there should be no compromising, it should do everything you ask or need, and give you change for your dollar too!! :makemyday:

I'd love to go back to japan, but not to work there, that was one of the craziest stints I ever did.. Of course the pay was outrageous, but so was 9-9, 7 days a week!! Mostly my time lately is spent playing at Armature radio, and that is a huge time suck. Then I spent two months searching for old negatives and scanning and Photoshopping files and identifying everything!!! And I am getting too old to spend 10-15 hours a day behind the keyboard.. As the Honda commercial says "I wan'ah Ride" Now if the rain stops long enough I may get my bikes on the road??? Then there is working out at the health club, roller skating, house work, and of course play time!! I just bought a Mig Welder, and I need practice time with that now too  If it ain't one things it's another..

| I got a Mig welder last year as I got it in a job lot of kit. I still havent used it but it is brand new and still boxed. I'm sure I'll have a need for it sometime!

But when I did any welding, I would just ask one of the guys in the shop, How to set the machine to weld this??? I have no one to ask now :-O So I have been reading and making sparks, and back to reading !!! My wife is worried that I'll burn the garage down !!!

| If the wire stubs the job, turn up the volts or turn down the wire speed (current), if you are burning holes, move faster or turn down the wire or the volts. If you have the settings right, there should be an even, harsh crackle from the ark. Adjust the volts higher for thicker metal, down for thinner metal. The wire speed (current) is more a fine tuning to adjust for technique and job variations like vertical and overhead. For better penetration push the torch forwards along the weld, to weld thin difficult joints pull the torch backwards along the weld. Gas wise, turn down the flow until the weld starts to become bubbly, then turn up the flow until it's clean but no higher. Any other welding problems, just ask! Oh, and use .8mm wire for 95% of jobs. .6 burns too fast without making enough heat, 1mm is too heavy unless you are welding 1/2" metal. !.2mm and 1.6mm wire needs a heavy 350 Amp set using spray transfer, which is a whole different game. Oh, just remembered, Use a heavy glove on your left hand to hold the nozzle end of the torch, to steady it, that makes all the difference to controlling the weld. An automatic helmet is also a great help.

| Have never used a wire welder so can be of no help. My Grandson is an expert however and his Father is no slouch. The closest I ever came to it was Heli-Arc welding in the 60's. Used a Tungsten electrode and helium as the gas but filler rod was by hand. We used it to weld up tire molds. I was a supervisor but played with it till I actually became pretty good. Almost all welding was on Aluminum molds.

| Taking off filters does have an impact. The fuji xp1 eliminates one of the main filters that is on all of our dslr's and it's really really sharp. Still... How sharp is sharp and at what point do you just emphasize the small amounts of dust on the sensor rather than the image??? I'll hold off till I see some Leica results - they usually do impressive stuff - but I have a hard time thinking that shooting raw and converting to BW isn't the ideal way for us to stay Tom
