Bad luckj with the weather but I did my best here are a first few. All will be with my D500 and Nikons 18-140 AF-S DX lens. The lens is a very good as a general trip if away for a few days in a city, results pin sharp but tin bit of barrel distortion only aty 18mm. This is the few from our hotel bedroom window looking towards St Marks Sq. 6400ISO! Attachment: Rain0969_00001.jpg (Downloaded 39 times)

Brings back memories of many visits to the city. Great view of the main island from there top of the tower in your image of the entrance to the Grand Canal. Island like Burano and Torcello worth a visit.

Yes we went to Burano about an hour from Venice main island on the water bus. Very dramatic coloured buildings and home of lace-making. Plenty of tourist interest and money making for local shops! Attachment: Burano1043_00001.jpg (Downloaded 35 times)

Seems like the city has not suffered too badly from the recent floods.

Robert they have always had canals rather than roads so boats tend to work best. Cars have to be left behind when you go to Venice! Attachment: _DSC0986_00001.jpg (Downloaded 29 times)

Mmmm, very odd? Maybe they know something about global warming. At least they have the expertise for the likes of New York and London when sea levels do rise.

Bob in years gone by they used even larger rowing boats like this for trading all over the Mediterranean. This was in the Naval Museum next to our hotel. There was a model of a much larger one like this with at least 30 slaves each side with a central gangway for the nice man with a whip to alter the speed of the boat, very high tec! Another Grand Canal pix. This was as good as lighting got for most of the time we were there.Even in dull flat light the D500 produces the results! Attachment: G Canal1007_00001_01.jpg (Downloaded 27 times)

Did you go to Murano and see the glass making?

We went last time 10 yrs ago and I just started to get interested in photographing the glass blowing when we were told get in the showroom NOW! We did get some very beautiful candle sticks with a few norts on the bill and felt we had been pressurised. I gather from our hotel manager that they have dramaticly cut production and most of what you see in the local shops is made in China! Saw this in a shop window it was rather costly. First went to Murano 26 years ago during our first trip to Venice. Hotel reception said we could have a free water taxi to take us to the island. Of course we arrived at the factory's private jetty and then twigged why the taxi was free. Interesting tour but pressured to the shop even that long ago. Waterford Crystal in Ireland is similar as far as production goes. A small factory where the specialist work is done by the main production is in the Czech Republic.
