My website: http://www.gwpmultimedia.com
Is now getting long in tooth and needs replacing. Also iomart.com are charging me nearly £200 a year for server space only! I have now got unlimited space for 3 years for £60 much better deal.

I need to recreate my gallery and would like some help if any of you know a suitable bit of easy to use templates software? My old webside was made for me by hand and would not be easy to move, also I want a new look and far less pictures.

Lightroom combined with Turning Gate plugins does a good job.

I was thinking of suggesting Lightroom, I have just taken on the CC version and at first glance there seems to be a big improvement in the available options for creating gallery displays.

Never used Turninggate, the big limitation I found with the lightroom galleries was there was no header to use for the index of several galleries. although creating a home page isn't difficult, it's the return to home button which I found a challenge to add to each individual gallery.

I know it can be done. Creating the Lightroom galleries is very easy, quick and neat, I found the presentation perfect with nice transitions and options for manual selection of images to display, as I say it was just navigation between galleries which was a problem.. I need to explore the CC options.

The Turning Gate stuff that Rich mentioned is relatively cheap and easy to use. They have some very neat on-line store options.
Which reminds me I must do something about setting up a new personal website.

The investment in good and easy to use software usually comes at the price of less 'flexibility' in the layouts as the CSS files are the important styles.

One of the Turning Gate modules does an auto index. You can add new galleries to the front page it generates using the publisher pane which is incredibly quick and easy. Makes a page quick and very easy to update. There is also a 'Cart' for on line sales, different module, and device friendly galleries so you get a nice swipe friendly gallery which will display differently and appropriately for computers, tablets and phones.

I bought the web package (blog, gallery and cart) which was really good value for $125.

Many thanks for all your help have been busy moving to a new server and may be able to move the old website as a temp stop-gap. Got gwpvideo.com in place this evening.
Turning Gae looks interesting but I do not have Lightroom and am not keen to spend more money with Adobe after all this wanting to move us all to The Cloud at huge extra cost. At present am sitting on CS6 Photoshop and CS6 Premier and hoping to keep them running on Windows 7 as long as possible!

Graham, that was my take, I have the entire CS5 curative suit, at considerable cost, but my Lightroom is (was) V3.6. I wanted to upgrade to current version but felt the upgrade was too steep a cost.

On 3rd Sept I upgraded Adobe Flash on my computer in response to an update prompt from the system, on completion I was greeted by a splash screen advertising Photoshop and Lightroom combo for £7.49 per month. It's a special offer for a year, which then rises to £8.78, OK I have stepped on the escalator but I now have the latest Adobe photo software at what I consider to be an affordable price. The special offer expired on 29th August but the purchase still went through at the offer price. A saving of over £12 for the year.

A single application is about £18 per month, so the Photo combo is very good value in comparison, in my opinion. I think Adobe have taken the view expressed by many that a lot of small sales will gross more than a few large sales and combat the black market of hacked installations. For a business it's totally tax deductible because it's rental.

As an existing customer of Adobe you are eligible for other significant discounts if you move over to their monthly plan.

As for the software being 'Cloud' based, functionally the entire software installation resides on your hardware, you are allowed two working copies, say one on desktop, one on laptop, and that's it. Once installed, you don't have to be connected to the internet, except occasionally to verify the installation, if it asks. The old CS versions do that anyway, they often 'phone home' to tell Adobe where they are and what hard drive they are on, if that doesn't match with Adobe records, Adobe sends out a shutdown message.

The 'Cloud' does NOT mean you are saving your files to the internet, although you could if you wanted to. Nor does it mean you are tethered to the 'Cloud' all the time. My understanding is you could install onto a laptop and go on safari for at least three months yet retain full functionality of the software, eventually if offers a warning it needs to verify and gives you some time to action before there is any limitation of the software.

I feel the term 'Cloud' is misleading, and puts many people such as yourself right off the idea. I felt that way until I became involved with the Apple iCloud, now I realise it is a positive move which greatly improves my life and my use of computers. The ability to synchronise things seamlessly across all my hardware. This will only improve over time.

A couple of links The Photo suit Photoshop and Lightroom combo:

Individual offers:

And just to be clear I don't have any allegiance with Adobe, except I like their products! Just hope this puts a new perspective on the term 'Cloud'.

Lightroom is still available for purchase as a non CC product.
I have LR5.6 and it is very good for some things. Editing is OK but not as good as Photoshop CS6 (IMHO).

I will upgrade to LR6 when it comes out later this year (rumour) but not if it is only CC. I do not pay subscriptions except for magazines and the National Trust. Both of which are not available to me here in Spain!

Thanks for all that info Robert I shall think about that. At present we are OK editing our latest DVD/BluRay (Talyllyn Railway we shot this July) and Permiere CS6 is still working OK. My old gwpmultimedia.com website seems to have moved OK to the new server.
Getting new gallery software is now not quite so urgent but I will keep looking. I need to find software that is not tied into a server and there for part of a deal.

Have you looked at the PhotoPost software.
The gallery software we use here on the forum is one of their products.

I can confirm that I didn't connect my laptop to the internet for 44 days and all still worked OK. I did get a message telling me that they had been unable to verify my account however.

Interestingly I did have a different problem in this time. I allowed my battery to go completely flat and for some reason the clock reset to 2001. Not being attached to the internet it didn't automatically reset, and none of my Adobe software would work until I had manually reset it.

I didn't realise the iPad didn't directly support Flash until now, there seem to be several alternative solutions though, the one above has a free trial to enable the user to establish it it's a suitable solution.

The new website seems really nice viewed on my desktop Graham. I am hosting with WebHosting UK (WHUK) Who seem to provide a reasonable service at a pretty good price. webhosting.uk.com

Eric thanks for that we built the new website on a PC and I asked another friend to have a look at it on an iPad, we are in trouble with any computer that has no Flash! Only the front page came up. My wife Wendy has an iMac so we will try that later but I think there will be problem there too.

It is possible we may be back to the drawing board I will keep you informed!
