http://www.jessops.com

They are said to be planning to match competitive on-line comtitive prices at the stores. Also book on-line and collect from store in 30 minutes.

Good luck to them, bold move, especially at the moment.

There is nothing new with that service Robert. They always did have the collect in store and pay web price. The problem is their web price! They always were and still are more expensive. For example D800... Jessops....£1998....amazon ....£1915.

Don't see how they can compete unless they price match other web prices.

So I understand. But it won't matter who backs it, if they can't price match other web company prices, they won't prevail.

they need to expand there ranges ,and as stated keep there prices keen ,a few years ago most shops were faced with being dearer than e/bay ,these days the shops are cheaper than e/bay as prices have gone stupid on there .
but amazon has managed to keep a tight grip on there outlets and with good service there the ones to watch out for .

personally i find a face to face in london camera exchange stores usually results in a good deal ,as they always refer back to there computers for the bottom line .if you cant get a deal from a shop assistant find the manager it always works .

if you got stuff to sell stick it on e/bay camera gear seems to go for silly prices on there .

jessops have got to keep all this in mind to make it work IMHO

At the end of the day the customer wants best price and best service. Sometimes the two dont fit. However it usually means you pay a little more for better service so it is a choice.

I have found LCE very helpful as well.

There is a huge 'feel good' factor in getting a good deal, I will spend months usually weighing up the options before I buy gear and the price has to be right.

I make a royal pain of myself at the stores looking and weighing up, then when I have the cash I pounce!

There again if a bargain comes along it has to be grabbed.

This doesn't work with Apple stuff, if it's not new, it's close to obsolete! There are few bargains to be had in the Apple store. :-( Sigh.

The sad fact was, and still is, that we like the convenience of a store in our own high street we can call in and examine the goods. But we then want internet prices. Jessops failed last time for three reasons...1. Shops in nearly every major town in the country....2. An unwillingness to offer Internet prices in store without going through the process of ordering online and collecting in store....3. Poor management of these issues.

I, literally ordered a lens on my iPad in the shop from their online site, for immediate collection in THAT shop...to avoid an extra trip. Ludicrous inflexibility.

Yes indeed that is a stupid process.
They should also look to price match within country.

If they had been sensible they would have played on the immediacy and postage free slant to high street shopping. People would pay a little bit more than the average web prices to take it away with them.

But their pricing is waaaay out. Take the XE 1 with 18-55.....jessops 1100....mathers....980. Go figure!o.O

unfortunately currys/pc world are taking exactly the same direction ,i bought a terrabyte external hard drive from them ,looked up the price online but when i went to collect it it had to be ordered online first apprently ,luckily the shop assistant had a bit of oopmh and ordered it on the shop computer there and then .i got it at the right price £15 off but they nearly lost the sale .

the point of this tirade ,the shops are quite capable of selling at bottom line internet prices ,but don't want to until pushed ,crazy world

All part of the Rip Off Culture in UK. Greed, laziness and profit! Nothing wrong with profit if it is reasonable and provides value to a customer.

Nothing wrong with profit if it is shared by those at the front end. Too much going into shareholders pockets and not into staff wages. therefore, you get cheap staff who don't give a damn because they don't get paid too

The whole internet price thing tee's me off. If an item is £100 then it's £100. I shouldn't have to sit in the store on my phone ordering it just to get it at that price. The thing is in front of me, it is the same item I will be taking home from the store for £100 regardless of when/where I order if from them. From home, from their store, from the cafe opposite. But to make me go to the cafe and use my phone when its sitting there - no wonder they can't sell anything.

It completely rids them of impulse buying customers. There was a time when I would go into a store and plan to buy one thing and come away with 3 or 4. Now, because I know I have to do the order and collect thing for the best price, I only buy the one thing I ordered. Therefore, for not having a consistent price they have actually lost 3 additional sales.
