I have just found a great piece of software. It is only for Mac but is similar to FastStone in Windows.
It is called Lyn. And can be downloaded from http://www.lynapp.com

Unfortunately it costs £â‚¬$16 if you want the full version but the trial is for 15 days then there is a limited version if you dont pay. If you want a good simple browser then that is fine. I paid the £16 as I thought it was so good.

Just downloaded it and had a quick look and it seems ok. If it works half as well as Faststone I'll be happy.

JK-

Looks fantastic. It's fast, handles NEFs fine, what's not to like :-)

I haven't played with the prefs yet, but I WOULD like to hide all the .xmp files.

In any event it's great to have a mac app that loads quickly for simple viewing.

I'll see if the 30 day trial moves me over from PS Bridge :-)

Thanks

Tom

It works well for me. I have paid the £16 so I have no limitations.

Be interested to see how you like it over a long period I have had it for about a week and it really is as good as I have found FastStone. Some features are missing that FastStone has but I use Corel AfterShot Pro or Photoshop CS6 for my proper editing.

I don't want it for editing at all. I don't view it as positive that they are adding features.

I want quick format updates, quick rendering and no proprietary catalog stuff.

It looks like this has it all now...let's hope they don't wreck it the way ACDsee did - the first "faststone" and excellent for a few years :-)

I agree.
Mind you I used to use PhotoMechanic but Lyn is much quicker and I prefer the image handling and simplicity of interface.

I dont want to edit there either. I never used FastStone to edit either as it didnt handle some stuff very well.

I just want a fast image browser that works. If I right click on an image I can then choose edit the image in CS6.

I still use PhotoMechanic but just to do my keywording - still haven't found anything better for that - easy and embeds keywords in the file with no sidecar file
