I use ViewNX-2 for linking GPS tags to JPG and NEF files.
The way I do it is linking a GPX file to pictures, using the Log Matching function in VNX2.
Since somewhere this year the Show-Map function has ceased working.
Nikon offers just one remedy : switch to VNX-D (not a solution for me)

Two  notes:
the linkig (Log-Matching) still works (and the globe-icons appear on the file-icons.
the function Tags- get from location data does not work anymore.

Has anyone else encountered this error (and maybe solved it)?
Regards, Gilbert

What OS Gilbert?

I HAD issues with mapping (generally) with the Mac until recently seems to have fixed itself, working OK now.

I use Lightroom for map geolocations. Just drag the image to the location or it reads the EXIF geolocation coordinates.

Robert,
The OS is Win7-US-64, using the last known version of VNX2 (english).
Equally annoying: Google's Picasa has had some hickups showing the map-window, but I found a fix for that.
Note: the GPS-tags, added with VNX2, do show correctly in Picasa's Map window.

My first thought on the reason for this failing: it may be a change in the interface or java- and html code that links the VNX software to Google-Maps.

Regards, Gilbert.

That would be my first reaction too. Outside my experience, JK might have some theories?

Google seem to have made several changes to the Maps and Google Earth recently.

I think there is going to be quite a bit of this during the transition from Flash to HTML5. Some companies, presumably with a heavy investment in Flash seem to be carrying on regardless while the rest of the world is gradually moving over to a better, more powerful and economic methodology.

I dont know the reason for this. It is probably a difference in Java or something in the SDK for the mapping

Update
Things are getting worse.
In january and febuary 2018, the log-matching worked just fine (only the show-map failed)
Yesterday I wanted to use the Log-Matching button in VNX2, and it resulted in a failure/error.
I may be forced to try the VNX-I version on my Win7 platform to tag GPX info into NEF files.
Is there anyone who knows how to install VNX-I without deleting the VNX2 version ?

re: made several changes
I do not know the essence of these changes (but from Google's forum I have found a patch to get Picasa3's map function to resume work.
The connecton between VNX2 and google maps etc must be contained in the circa 300 Kb of plain text .js and .html code in the folder ..\GPSMap

Update 2,
I tried installing VNX-I, and subsequently re-installing VNX-2.
That installation was a success.
Alas, that did not cure the problem.
When performing Log-Matching (adding GPS data to image-files) VNX-I stores the GPS information in a "sidecar" file, not the NEF itself (contrary to what is mentioned in the VNX-I help-file).
The only way to make the GPS info visible to other programs is exporting the NEF to JPG , that incorporates the GPS information from the side-file into the JPG-file.
