1^st Post

got a new lens for the wife to use on one of the cameras this morning ,its a tokina 80-400atx (it arrived and its lovely got a super deal ) BUT this is about my existing kit ,i tend to keep a 1.4 tc on the d300s and a 1.7 tc on the d7000 a combo which works for me .

so i awoke at 7.30 am and knowing the new lens was coming got the d7000 ready to bolt it on ,i had taken the 1.7tc and 300mm lens off the d7000 and put it on the d300s .i picked up the d300s to take a shot of a pigeon in the garden and went totally ballistic upon finding i could only get f9.3 from the apeture no matter what i did .i then went into menus and went through everything looking for a problem ,and finally decided on a menu reset ,still no joy .fearing a expensive repair bill after just having bought the new lens i was virtually shedding tears in my 2nd cup of coffee .

YOU CANT USE A CAMERA WITH TWO STACKED T.C'S
what a muppet ,but a relieved one .DOH :byebye::byebye:

Well the good news is you figured the reason and fixed it! ;-)

I had been thinking of some way to start a thread about goofs. Like how long did it take me to realise there was no card in the camera? Then to realise I had left the card at home in the computer... Stuff like that, I am sure we all do it, most importantly how to extract ones self from the mire...

Last weekend I was away, I went online and while browsing I got a notification that I had a new OS update, since where I was staying they have unlimited downloads, I started the download, only to realise I was low on battery power, Reaching for my charger I realised it was at home. Grrrr On that occasion I couldn't think of a workaround The nearest charger I was aware of was about 20 miles away. It wasn't the end of the world but annoying non the less.

Come to think of it...I think it was on the old forum!

I think it's carpet shampoo poisoning!

I've been cleaning the hall carpet today...and its all done!

Except...having cleaned and put away the shampooing machine I discovered the front door mat had been laid in one corner...covering a dirty area I forgot to do. Grrrr.

Guess what I am doing tomorrow?

Jeff..if its any consellation, when I first got my D3 I had serious exposure problems. The exposures were all over the place. I was only getting one good shot every 9 shots. I was on the point of sending it back, when I remembered I had been trying the 9shot auto bracketing. Surprise surprise !

Typical example: Working at the computer, decide I need refreshment, I go downstairs to make a brew, put kettle on, while it's heating the water I get bored, remember an urgent task, nip upstairs to do it, forget the kettle, eMail comes in, I reply to eMail, forget the urgent task, remember something else I needed to do, check clock, lunchtime; go to make lunch, remember the brew I hadn't made, boil water again and so on. It's no fun getting older on your own, unsupervised, need to keep busy.

Yet I can remember minute detail of some stuff even going back to childhood. Things like car reg numbers, key numbers, even telephone numbers from when I was six. I can list the function of almost every Lucas car wire colour code from memory. Yet I go downstairs and forget what I went for. I think part of the problem is that while I am going downstairs my mind runs riot thinking through 'schemes and projects' and gets diverted. I need to remain focussed.

I am in the very same boat Robert. I can be walking down the hall to accomplish a task and be thinking of something else and bingo, all of a sudden, I forget what I was going to do in the first place.

On the other hand, I can remember home addresses and phone numbers as far back as the 1950's and my father was military as was I so every couple of years we moved. That's a lot of old totally useless info :rofl:

I am in the very same boat Robert. I can be walking down the hall to accomplish a task and be thinking of something else and bingo, all of a sudden, I forget what I was going to do in the first place.

I dumbfounded my wife a few weeks back by reciting all the car registration numbers we have jointly owned over the last 40+ years.

She turned to me and said " what time is your dental appointment tomorrow?"

"no idea"!

Robert, I think that it happens to us all.
I think that it is a question of importance and prioritisation.

Not everyone has the same priorities and interests.
So at the time the cup of tea/ coffee seems really important but once you have the kettle on, other things become more urgent!
