well I am stopping by to tell you all I am going on a trip. (house is guarded) but we are flying to portland and driving the pacific coast to northern california to shoot some pics of redwoods and visit family. I get to try out my new thinktank retrospective 20 and put the last few thousand shots on my D200 before I hopefully replace it . Anyone have any info on the area let me know I have scoped out lighthouses , tidal pools , beaches and all sorts of stuff ... Wish me luck

Good luck Rick, I'm sure the D200 will take some outstanding images.

Have you explored using Google Earth? That's what I do when I am going somewhere new.

Enjoy the trip Rick.

Plenty to photograph. Need to take something to store the pictures on, laptop is perfect.

Am I the only person who just leaves the photos on the SD card and downloads when returning home?? More importantly, am I the only person that does not own a laptop??:baffled:

I have as yet, never filled my SD and CF card stocks while shooting for either pleasure or business. They are cheap enough to have lots!

I download the days shoot and back it up on 2 HDs ....when at home. When away from home, I cant break the backing up habit. I use the iPad to store the back up files.

But I never clear down the cards until I get home and do the double back up.

I use the backup feature on the D7000 so I record 2 SD cards at a time - I only use the backup feature when away from home overnight. I have never run out of cards yet. I took over 5000 RAW photos when we went on our trip to Europe last year and just locked the cards in write protect and unlocked them when I got home and down loaded to two HD's.

I could drop them on the ipad but my wife has it super glued to her hands and I would be worried she may inadvertently dump my photos to free up game/facetime space.

This seems a widespread issue, perhaps I should suggest to Apple a 'his and hers' set, say pink and blue? at a discounted price!

I size my CF and now SD cards so I have 400 shots in each camera.  I have found that I never shoot more than 800 images in a day (always use two cameras),  I download and review on my laptop each day.
When I was in Australia in 2008 for three months, I shot 5500 images and I needed 200GB of a 320GB drive to store all the images.

I feel that the iPad is Tolkiens "One Ring" and my wife knows when I lift the cover off the machine! :'(
