That's a lovely rose Chris, what's its name? Is it a Peace rose?

Jan has been out in the garden with her iphone. She finds the greater depth of field from the smaller sensor/wider lens better for her purposes.

She also uses a selfie stick to reach the blooms above head height and below the level she can now bend. :needsahug:

I was fascinated with the stigma of this tulip

Footnote:  The wife just told me triangular stigmas are a feature of all tulips. :banghead:

Not a Peace - they are fuller and more yellow. This one was an impulse buy at the garden centre till about 35 years ago and it has long since lost its label! It reliably flowers every year and, if regularly dead headed will go on flowering all summer.

Close but no cigar :needsahug:

We have a couple of Maigold ramblers and I spent an hour just deadheading one of them on Tuesday. Waiting for the next flush.

Bugs are not much of a problem for us as the garden has lots of trees and a varied collection of birds of all sizes and hoverflies that keep the bugs down.

All this talk about iPhone took this snap on last evenings walk. Not very easy to compose photos on it in the bright evening sun. Little crop and minor levels all it needed in Photoshop. I am quite impressed with the quality.

Nice one Graham, phones have a better dof and for such a tiny sensor the resolution is amazing - it always used to be that Samsung had the better camera but I think Apple have overtaken them now.

Coincidentally my wife was videoing birds having a bath the other day. The background sound was Carlton Kirby commentating on the Tour de France live, the wife cussing the camera for not behaving and me shouting over the noise on the phone. Bizarre soundtrack .almost worth keeping. Lol

There was me thinking it would make it easier to id

The produce multiple flowers on multiple stems, so it's an ongoing repeat performance

It's a Poppythey have gone mad this year. Was hoping the muntjacs would eat them in front garden ..but they don't seem to like them.
There's always bugs in flowers. I give it a shake and hope the petals stay on.

Here's one I 'shook' earlier.

Thanks Eric. I didn't know you got poppies in different colours but then I'm not very knowledgable about flowers.

Oh yes.

The blue (Himalayan)poppies are stunningly beautiful but the hardest to grow.

Very impressive intense red colour cascade.
That's obviously a different creeper to ours (supposedly a Virginia creeper) because ours is struggling to go solid red as yours.
It has some red leaves but it seems to need an overnight frost (which we haven't had yet) to turn it all at once.

Ours has grown down the fence backing onto a lane. Annoyingly, despite facing north it prefers to spread along the fence outside, so we have to go outside to see it :whip:

These are screen grabs form the wife's iPhone video (she puts them in her digital diary/journal)

It's even crossed half the back gate. So we have a moving creeper every time we open the gate (much to the amusement of some people)

We have had some really cold nights in the last week - that maybe brought the colour on, also it is on the west side of the tree so has more exposure to the wind and the sun (when we see it!).

This is one aspect that iPhones excel but unfortunately as with all these phone pictures they look superb small on the iphone/ipad screen but dont stand up if enlarged to 8x10".

Not all phone images are equal - like DSLRs it depends how you set them up.

This one was taken on my Samsung S24.

The advantage of phone sensors is the immense depth of field they enable …if you need it. Jan was photographing a minute false widow spider on her orchids the other day. It was only about 3mm long! ( she wanted to identify what it was) .
I tried to get a comparable image with the Sony + 90mm macro but struggled with f28 and noise due to the low light in that location.
