Thank you.
Orion nebula, my first nebula, from Saturday night, usual location, close to Stickle Pike.
D300S, Nikkor 300mm f/2.8, 1 second @ f/2.8, ISO 1600. Processed in Lr, final levels adjustments in Ps. Magnification 1:3 (less magnification than 1:1).
It's the first time I have targeted a specific feature (other than the moon of course) in the night sky.
With the 300mm lens a 1 second exposure still reveals considerable earth rotation. To make real progress a sky tracker is a must. I have my thinking cap on, a mixer gearbox has been earmarked for modifications... Just how to drive it is the issue. A stepper motor seems the obvious choice, with all the complexity that brings.
