Having finished mowing the back lawns I suddenly realised the noise wasn't coming from my mower but from down the road towards the river. A quick look at the town website revealed the national speed water skiing event was happening on the Gt Ouse this weekend. Not sure what the correct name is for 1000hp power boats welling back and forth up the river at speeds of 60mph plus towing some poor sod on a board?

But I wandered down with the camera to see what was happening. This was the winner of the Formula 3 race....

I was really wanting to try the D500 on fast moving objects....it enabled me to get some close up of interest.

For example.....I was reassured to see the driver seat had been labelled as the one facing forward...

Although this driver doesn't like the look of the course and his navigator doesn't want to stay there...

Looks like it had little problem in capturing the high speed action even in grey UK.

Yes, very pleased. These photos have been considerably and crudely downsampled to post. The original high res versions are very sharp using the 16-80 f2.8-4 @ 80mm f8 1/1000 Auto iso.

I think he might be asking to go to the toilet going backwards in that.

Have to say it wasn't my sort of fun ...to photograph or take part! Sure they welly along with lots of noise but you can't vary the shooting position like a motorsports circuit. It's just up one bank and back down the other. Couldn't get to the turn at one end as their trailers and lifting gear were at that end ...so fenced off. The other was half a mile walk down the river....away from my car.

Can't imagine it's much fun sitting backwards and being bounced about.
