I picked up one of these lenses very reasonably as the zoom was jammed at 35mm - turned out to be nothing more than a missing screw and stripped thread in the zoom key - easily fixed. However the service manual is laced with warnings not to disassemble the 1st or 5 lens group unless you have the equipment to check and realign the optical axis... so left well alone! However the does seem to be a fair amount of dust inside, evenly spread over at least one of the lens groups.

It doesn't seem to affect the images taken with the lens but I would like an opinion from you -

The trees at the bottom of the garden are down - now it is time to climb up on the roof to repair the roof tile damage caused by the spring storms. Then it will be a repaint of the timber cladding, the south side of the house is very exposed to the weather. So much to do!

As it happens I found that the front lens group can be removed as a group without disturbing the adjustment screws which hold the front glass in a floating frame. The dust was evenly coated over the front of the second group so that was easily cleaned with a brush and a puff!  So now the lens look pretty clean inside. :-)

Well done.  That is another job off the list.

So with all this sunny weather the moss and fungus detritus will be killed off so the repainting work should be easier.

I bought the lens to fix and sell on but I am becoming quite fond of it! The 610 has auto crop so the DX lens works fine albeit at 10mp but the lens is so much lighter and less bulky than the 28-70 2.8! Maybe I'll put it up for sale at a premium price and not be too disappointed if it doesn't sell!

The wood cladding on the house has Ronseal stain on it - this flakes off over about 5 years (2017 was the last time I did it)  so all I need to do is run the belt sander over it to remove the flaky stain and then put on another couple of coats.
