I have a glass sphere about 3" in diameter and have been experimenting with it. On my wall I have this print of Honfleur Click here to comment on this image. and, using the sphere against the lense and the print was able to capture this detail Click here to comment on this image. |

Is the section in your glass sphere photo of the girl in the picture in the orange dress with the pannier who has a quay bollard in front of her? I guess the sphere is behaving as a type of anamorphic lens. I have a similar sphere that I purchased two years ago but with all the moves and disruption over the last two years I havent had a chance to experiment with it. Good opportunity to use this time, as I have run out of the DIY materials I need, to do some tabletop photos and experiments. |

Yes - that is the girl. Not an anamorphic lens as the aspect ratio is the same, but a magnifying lens - I noticed that, held in my hand close to an object, the usual inverted reduced image became the right way up and larger. |
