A little legal action sure got the Nikon wheels spinning. Hope this will get them to improve their customer service.
 
This is the US version but I understand that it is available worldwide.

Thanks for posting. I have seen the report of this happening unofficially but it seems that Nikon have agreed to change all/any D600 shutters. I think I might give Nikon UK a ring when I return home and find out the state of play. I am not unhappy with my D600 but yes I have to clean the sensor to get rid of spots. If they are exchanging for a new D610 then I am happy to lose the D600 for a week or two.

Too late. Nikon did replace the shutter unit of my D600 free of charge last year, but only after I scratched the sensor when cleaning. And I had to pay for sensor replacement. :-(

Would you really expect a manufacurer to replace a product you wrecked/damaged?
I am not familiar with Canadian law, common sense would exclude such claims.

Would the sensor been damaged if the shutter wasn't squirting oil on to the sensor? Very unlikely.

It wouldn't be worth the legal fees to argue the claim, but requesting reimbursement at this time might be successful.

Just posting this story on all the larger sites would be much more of a PR headache to Nikon than refunding a few hundred pounds.

Good point A about the timing, but I won't expect anything from a company which dares to say a pro lens on the current product line-up is incompatible with its camera models manufactured since 1999.

The Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AF apparently it is not fully compatible with the D800e.

The 80-200 in that topic is certainly not a current lens.
That lens was last made circa 1992.

I think there was some debate about the lens and whether it was the AFD or th eAF that was being referred to.

Peter has the AFD version which the tech person at Nikon was getting confused with but Peter was still having a focus problem with.

Gilbert, this lens is still on the current line-up and the the latest catalog and when I requested that the scratched front element be replaced, the Nikon staff even confirmed "You're lucky that there're spare parts as the lens is still in production".
