I have a focus problem that has developed on my D500 in the last three weeks, inconsistent focus. I put up a test chart mounted the camera on a tripod, mirror lockup, focused took a shot, defocused, took another shot. Out of 10 shots three sharp, three softish four oof. I cleaned the AF sensor but no difference. Any idea before it's off to Nikon? My lens works fine on another body.

Have you tested the lens on another Nikon body? I think that it could be a lens problem or a camera problem. Difficult to know without the same item test in a different combo of lens/camera.

Sounds like you need to get the camera checked out.

Never found what caused the focus problem, I did another reset on it and all seems fine now. Don't you just love electronics.

So maybe redoing the reset after everything you tried fixed it? I wondered if reinstalling the firmware might have been an option....but hopefully doesn't matter now.
