Today I set my D500 to shoot raw to the primary slot and jpeg to the sd card.

Problem, both cards end up with raw on both.

Is it me or is there a problem on the D500 I don't know about?

I thought that the Nikon allowed this to work. Certainly does on my Fuji XT2.

Says in manual that it is possible p92.

I think you must have a bug. Do you have latest firmware v1.13 or later as I have v1.13 and it works if I remember correctly.

Might be best to do a Two Green dot reset (factory reset) and try again.

Just tried that and still the same. I'm on 1.14. I might try reinstalling the firmware and see if that helps.

Have you tried a hard reset (2 green dots)?

On page 96 of D500 Manual it states when NEF-JPG is set on primary XQD slot the NEF only records on prine and the JPG goes on the SD card. Perhaps you need to try this I think it looks as if it will do the job. At lest that's how it reads to me.

I set up both to get full size NEFs so if one slot or card failed I always have back-up. It's a quick easy job to make a JPG of the size you want in post.(Ian sorry if I am doing an egg sucking job to you!!)

That's what I've been trying Graham but it records nef to both cards.

Ian I have just taken D500 camera out and I agree. Best I could do was set Nef+JPG to record on both cards!

Just tested this on my D500 with firmware v1.13
It works perfectly for me. NEF saved on XQD slot and JPG to SD.

Settings need to be set to NEF in RAW format.
Then in Slot Selection you choose the Secondary Slot setting to be 3rd option which specifies RAW to XQD and JPG to SD.

Thanks JK will try that in morning. I also had a go with D850 and had same problem. As I have never needed to do it but we can all learn from each other.

There is also a secondary setting you need to make as well.

Settings need to be set to NEF in RAW format.
Then go into "Slot Selection" menu option.
You choose the Secondary Slot setting to be 3rd option which specifies RAW to XQD and JPG to SD.
