It's interesting but still has a way to go before becoming mainstream. When exported as a 2D image, the resolution of a 40 megaray image is approximately 4MP. That's just a bit better than a Nikon D1.

Frankly, I've had enough. I did a kitchen shoot on Tuesday and I haven't looked at the files yet. You may notice I haven't posted any images in my gallery recently, despite being on holiday in September! Similar to what you said Rich, I've lost impetuous and interest in photography at the moment. Life and a few health issues getting in the way.

Which tax year? The one when Ed Balls is Chancellor.

There software doesn't seem to be able to stack all the variations in order to get a sharp shot from 1to1 to Infinity.

Me too Eric. Been running down for a few years now and at the point where I can't be a**ed and bills like accountant etc don't make sense vs turnover. So March 31st it is. We can flood the market with used gear in the new year. All the best.

Well that is good news. It is freedom as long as you dont fret about stuff you cant influence! Good luck to the both of you. I will wait for Eric to come down or until I buy a motorhome and come to UK when I will bring some champagne to celebrate.

I'm kind of in the same boat, semi retired but what I am doing is not worth doing. I'll have to have a good think.

I recemtly found myself telling clients I am 'not available on that day' for no other reason than, I need to get the garden winter pruning done. Lol Actually....finding the garden more fun than shooting hotels, machinery and kitchen installations!

Called getting your life back. Totally absorbed for 30 plus years in press and pr world. Had great fun but ops two years back made me think just like your incident in Italy Eric. There is another world out there.

There is another world out there. It's too easy to get stuck in a groove. I was like that in my previous career...until 20 years ago my wife had a brain tumour. It jolted me out of the corporate groove and into working from home and ...the photography groove. Lol Like you I have been slowly winding down, allowing the business to wither on the vine, so to speak. You reach a point where you look at the business expenses and realise they are becoming significant relative to income. A friend of mine recently said he was 'working to fund the business.' So I am stopping before that happens! I am also struggling with a 91yr old father living 150miles away...making another groove....up the A1.

When I can talk myself (and her indoors) to let me get rid of the fast len's and heavy cameras, then that's the point I know I've retired.

Sitting for hours using Photoshop is no longer a pleasure. Dammit...I may have to start getting it right in the camera, so I don't need to sit at a computer?

I put on all his last 10 years of photos. Sitting with him, going through them on Monday, I was struck by how many of his garden shots were out of focus. But Dad, bless him was saying 'look at that lovely rose...isn't that beautiful....'. "Yes Dad"

hi gang ,just popped in for a view ,eric you can't beat retirement and doing your own thing whatever that may be ,i presume you can survive without the full income so just get out there and do your own thing . i find most of my time these days is spent either taking pics ,or taxi-ing the kids and grandkids etc around any other spare time is dedicated to spreading as much chaos as possible on this inter-fishing-net thing . after your crash you should realise that lifes to short to spend your time making money ,just enjoy what you have left .

I can somewhat understand why there is a Benefits Culture in UK. If someone will pay you to not work then why not (dignity and sense of accomplishment, spring to mind!), but unfortunately I had to work hatd for 30 years to make enough money to afford to retire. Eric, the main thing is that you and Jan have enough good health and money to have those relaxing holidays and home projects to fill your time.

sorry not to respond but the news was bad and depressing..............I am now making progress. Needed more surgery but some how the whole affair affected my legs also. Worsened an already bad condition. I will need more surgeries on my legs. So I just consider myself starting over and building a brand new me. (ok I will not be brand new since I am using mostly the old parts) But none the less, I love you all and wish you a very merry exmas. Eric, I am happy for you to retire but please don't drift away from us. You are one of the main branches on our tree and us twigs would be lost without you. ps (Robert still has growing children so he is forced into staying young and virile)

Well it is good to hear that people are recovering and renewing themselves. I hope that in 2015 I will get to travel around a bit as I am looking into buying a campervan to allow me to going to places where it is less easy to travel to except by short fly-drive events. I will be able to stay overnight close to the shooting location so I can get those wonderful early morning images without having to get up two hours before the event. Time will tell, if that doesnt work out then I will go travelling in Asia.
