Hi there :) I'm Andy, 59 years young and am currently in the West Midlands UK. I enjoy using older technology and have never been one of the 'must have the very latest thing' brigade, although I fully respect others right to buy and use what they want to.

I currently use a D1, D1x and a D200 with both AF and manual lenses. I'm just a hobby photographer but enjoy learning to take better photos and trying new things with old kit :) Looking forward to reading through the threads here and maybe chatting to anyone with similar interests.

Keep snapping :)

Andy

Hi Andy, Welcome to the forum.

Sound a little like myself, D1, D1x, D200 with various versions like IR. I have a mix of lenses mainly non zoom MF.

I photograph a wide range of things although my main interest is in plants and flowers. I love to experiment. I have spent many happy hours at the Birmingham Botanic Garden where there are some wonderful plants, both indoors and out.

Take a look in the Gallery, there are some very nice images in there. Create an album for yourself and upload some images.

Hi Robert and thanks for the welcome! As it happens I was looking at your deer in the mist photo when I got the email telling me you'd posted here; it's stunning! Unfortunately there aren't many deer in Dudley :)

The Birmingham Botanic Gardens are 5 minutes from my in-laws house but while I've visited I've (stupidly) never had a camera with me. I'll certainly put that right this summer though! Currently having fun playing with old MF M42 lenses and will take your advice and post a few pics soon.

Andy.

The Deer pic was a lucky break, right place and ready!

Has Dudley zoo gone? I spent a day there back in the 70's when I was visiting a friend who was stationed at Cosford.

This is an IR pic I took at the botanic garden:

Taken with a D1 converted to 720nm.

It was a burning hot day, hard work but most enjoyable.

Welcome Andy.
There are now several Andys on the forum...we may have to label you 1, 2 ....26 or whatever when chatting. :-)

There's quite a mix of skills and interests here....plus a lot of friendly banter!

We have just restarted the forum, after the 12 year old forerunner's software began to die on us.

Robert is manfully trying to copy over some of the (relevant) pearls of wisdom we accumulated but unfortunately not all the former members have found this new home yet.

So spread the word....the more the merrier!

Look forward to seeing some of your images and post.

Dudley Zoo is still there but I'm ashamed to say I've never been! I keep meaning to for the Lubetkin designed structures as much as for the animals :)

I know nothing about IR photography but the image is arresting and the sentiment is one I share :)
