the ones the metal detecting guys swear by are vapex 2900mah they not only last longer ,they allegedly impart more depth and sensitivity to the machines .hard to prove scientifically .but a good one to go for |

You do come up with some tough questions Kathy!  I use CP batteries from my local supplier:  http://cpc.farnell.com/gp-batteries/gp250aahc/battery-ni-mh-aa-1-2v-2450mah/dp/BT03102 My original batteries which are quite old, I guess 6 or 7 years at least are still going strong, I bought another batch maybe 4 or 5 years ago and most of them are being rejected by the CP charger while the older batteries just seem to keep going, also the largest capacity batteries, 2200mAh, of the second batch, tended to fail first, while the 1800mAh lasted longer, some are still going but not many. Uniross seem to have a good name but I have no personal experience. I use Varta Li-Ion 18650 cells for my D1/D1x and my specialised high powered Ultra Violet lamp and they are ultra reliable, but that is a different beast. I think we tend to pick a suppler and stick with them until something fails unexpectedly, then perhaps check around? My supplier seems to be listing a different CP AA battery, at least the wrapper design is different and they have now upped the capacity to 2450mAh, whether they are any more reliable remains to be seen. I expect all our experiences will differ. |

I may have a go with them, I have to say the newer CP batteries from CPC have been a source of frustration for me with the charger rejecting my apparently good cells when I try to charge them, it may of course be an over sensitive charger? |

I use the Sanyo Eneloop batteries. They used only come in 200mAH version but they now come in 2500mAH as well. Their main characteristic is that they dont discharge like a NiMH battery but more like a Lion battery. A NiMH battery discharges at 10-15%/month whereas for an Eneloop and Lion battery this is only 2-5%/month. This makes them very good for use in cameras and flashes. |

I've just sold all my Uniross. They don't hold charge on storage and I also felt they gave up, too soon when used in the flash. The 2700 later ones were especially disappointing....no better than the 2400. I would go for eneloop batteries if you use them spasmodically. More expensive than bulk standard rechargeables but hold their charge on storage. |

Kathy in the US for general use batteries Walmart is probably a good place as they have an assortment at various prices. Higher powered batteries (2900mah) are pricier and are built for higher loads and quick charges but not for longevity. The lower priced 2000mah tend to last longer if the loads are not too high like flashlights or smaller cameras. They all need frequent recharging or topping up or you'll be disapointed and none of them are good preformers if they are used below freezing, 32F or 0C. |

I confess, this is for a four year old who has to sleep with his finger on the on button on a LeapPad (learning tablet). I was hoping to change the batteries every other day instead of every day! |
