This topic is for people to post their thoughts about how we could improve the forum. It is a place to suggest enhancements to the software, new ways of doing forum stuff, future things we could do, etc..... |

Details of the enhancement required for the Gallery. Access Control 1. Gallery images only viewable by Registered Users who are logged in. 2. Need to able to sort my images by date or number of views. 3. Need to be able to restrict views and restrict the display of images in the user gallery or sub-gallery section to members only or to password a gallery/sub-gallery (default no password). 4. Ability for user to set a password so that users can view a gallery or sub-gallery. 5. Admin/SuperModerators can set or change password or set a gallery to be password protected. Gallery 'All Photos' display view. 1. Possibly a new button that will show most Recent Images in all galleries in a single view. This uses current gallery_view.php and code (no change, only a new button called 'Recent Images') on the Gallery view page. New view - All User Galleries (user gallery view 1) 1. Default entry. Similar to using the All button but this would show all user's with galleries instead of all images. The user should be shown a list of all users with images loaded in their Galleries. The usernames should have hyperlinks that allow a click to take the user to the selected user's gallery and display content using a new User Gallery view (defined below). Personal gallery - My Photos view In 'My Photos' view or a single User's Gallery view. 1. Show all the images in the current user's default gallery and also all the sub folders contained. 2. You can then click on the sub-folder links to see the content of that sub-folder. 3. In sub Gallery need a back button or similar to allow movement back up the hierarchy of sub folders. Display of individual images. 1. Clicking on an individual image in a gallery shows a popup window. 2. Images should be displayed in a popup window that is user resizable. 3. Clicking on another image displays the new image in the same popup window that the last image was displayed in. 4. Display a drop down list to allow change of image number 3/6/9/12/24/48 images per page. 5. There should be a Comments field that allows other users to comment on the photo. Each comment will be appended to the comments field text and will show the name of the user commenting, e.g. comments xxxsdxxxsdxdxxx by user1, comments dtfasuyga by user2, etc... 6. Images should be sortable in the following ways: Filename (asc/desc), Date (asc/desc), With or without Comments. These will be sent to the person who will do the programming for the enhancements. We will then load the new enhanced software with the improved features and functionality. If we then feel that we need to enhance further then we can do another round of enhancement in a few months. Obviously there is no one size fits all but we should be able to improve on the basic Gallery that we have now. |

Are we enabling comments on gallery images? |

About the galery- Can the border around the picture be changed? A more nutral olor perhaps. Is there a option to make the pictures full screen. Like some form of scaler. Ralph |

whiteiris wrote:Are we enabling comments on gallery images? I hope so. I think it is missing in the gallery here. The current gallery is very basic and is not designed for photo sites. I think that the default frame clour needs to be something more neutral. A brow, grey or black. However it may be more difficult as it is a non user customisable item so it needs to be common for all. |

Is it possible to have the 'notify me on this thread' switched OFF by default? I seem to be getting emails of every comment coming through. And while I realise I can switch it off...I keep forgetting!!? It would surely be bettter to have it set to OFF and only switch ON the ones you want to be notified about? |

Robert

As far as I know all notifications are set to OFF by default? I only get notifications on one thread which I selected just to see what happens. Have you selected global notifications in your profile? |

Good, glad it's sorted. Is it possible you touched the screen inadvertently using the iPad? There are so many buttons it would be easy to click something by accident while scrolling. That is why I am concerned about the ignore button on every post. I really don't see the need for it to be on every post. To me it's a profile setting, not a front of house setting. It isn't something I would EVER want to do anyway. As for 'Add a Friend', I hope we are all friends here, so again an unnecessary button. These forum screens and button layout was not designed with small touch screen devices in mind. |

JK, Respect for your efforts. Please allow one silly question: I see no option to access the PM section, just the send PM buttons on screen. Is this my oversight ? Regards, Gilbert |

I think that it is set ON if you create the topic as well. |

Gilbert Sandberg wrote: JK,If you press PM button on someone else it sends them a PM from you. If you want to see your PMs then go back to main forum page on the left side under the menu there is a PM box. It will probably say 'No New Messages'. If you click on the 'No New Messages' link it takes you to your PMs. |

JK, re: If you click on the 'No New Messages' You are right, the setup caused my oversight, I assumed the message saying no new messages did not have a link behind it, it DOES. Thanks, Gilbert |

I'd say it is less than obvious, Gilbert. I think there are some buttons we need extra. 1. Go to my Gallery. 2. Go to Home page - possibly. These are refinements but do make the site easier to use. Also we definitely need to look at being able to insert more than one image in a post without it being hosted else where and using an image link! |

jk wrote:I'd say it is less than obvious, Gilbert. Don't think we need a home page button, the forum header serves that purpose. We could do with a back to recent posts button. On the old forum that was the home page and that was my entry point. I never visited 'Discussions' except tp find an old post or make a new topic. |

I disagree Pam . I would like to see the menu when I am in a Topic. I also wish I could see recent topics right away also. It takes me along time to learn these new layouts (dyslexia) Kathy |

(Not done on an ipad so that isnt responsible) I have unticked it in preferences as my email box already gets too many notifications! |

Can we have a button for new posts since last visit. These forums usually have that. The recent button spits out everything that has been posted rather than since the last visit to the forum. We don't necessarily want to read EVERYTHING but the older posts are still there as "recent". |
|||||||||
Robert

In the left column called 'Topic' is the name of the recent topics, just after the name of the recent topic is a heavy down arrow. Click on that arrow, that takes you to the beginning of the posts of that topic which you have not read yet. Attachment: Down Arrow.jpg (Downloaded 28 times) |

Kathy Baker wroteI think that a 'Menu always available' would be helpful. Also as Judith says a view that shows just the posts since your last visit would be nice. That presumes that we can get the auto-logoff to work. I havent seen this work yet. I must raise a Support Request. We might be able to do some of this now. I need to talk to Steve. |

Auto Log on/off IS working. Last evening I had my account open on the Mac mini and Pams account open on the MBP. I checked the 'Who's online' info on the forum, after about an hour, perhaps less, of inactivity on the forum the inactive member disappears from the logged on members list but immediately re-appears if the the 'inactive' member selects a new screen or refresh's their browser. Although you may appear to be logged on at your computer, if you are inactive for a period you are automatically logged off by the forum. Any activity re-logs you back on automatically which I think is great, Far better than having to log on every hour or so as it was on the old forum. |

That's odd. I have been logged on (iPad) as Eric ....since I reregistered, 24+hours ago. Haven't needed to re log on. The iPad is left charging overnight so there is no activity. Are you saying that despite displaying I am logged in...I am not ...until I click on something? |
|||||||||
Robert
|
That's correct. I guess it depends what you mean by logged on... I think the cookies are handling this, I have just installed a complete new OS upgrade of Mountain Lion on my Mac mini. While I was doing that I used the the MBP (laptop) to browse the site under the Pam account. While I was installing the update my MBP was still showing 'Robert' as logged in, even though the computer I had been using and was logged in on was undergoing an OS Upgrade. When I regained use of the Mac mini I was still showing logged in on that computer. It seems to me to completely log out you have to actually tell it you are logged out but to put the login to 'sleep' just leave it and it will auto log out at the Forum server after about an hour. I will run a test later to try to establish what the timing is. You can really only test this with two accounts on two computers. |

Well that is a possibility. I will check with the software creators as to what the expected behaviour should be. |

I suspect a few Mac users any minute now, might object to this IE9 fix effecting the auto log on. |
