You would think after 20 years pro photography you would learn. In fairness, I hadnt used this camera for a couple of months.....

A beautiful green woodpecker landed in the garden today. Brilliant sunshine really zinged his plumage. Hopped happily, oblivious, towards the house until only 10feet from the open patio door. I quickly slipped into the office, spilled out all the camera gear, grabbed the D7000 and the Sigma 500mm.

Assembling and making settings selections as I rushed down the hall, I then slumped over the armchair (in lieu of tripod). He filled the frame beautifully. I remember thinking "Jeff is going to love these", as I rattled off 20-30 shots with the woodpecker turning and posing like a catwalk model.

Eventually he moved behind some bushes and I was able to review the images.

"NO CARD" was all that appeared on the LCD.

I had robbed BOTH the SD cards from this body when I went on my recent holiday....and forgotten to replace them.

:needsahug:

For those who dont know the green woodpecker here is a young one I took on a dull day on the patio .... 'earlier'.

( 6 years ago ...that was a shock!)

What rotten luck Eric. :needsahug:

Isn't there a setting which prevents exposures when no card is present? I seem to remember activating that on my D200 after I has spent some time taking masterpieces when I first got the D200, only to discover there was no card present... :banghead:

Yes there is a setting that say No Card - Lock/No Lock. Default is No Lock. :-(

I always set my cameras to Lock.

Been there, done that,Learned from it and still have it happen. The feeling it gives is not one of pleasure.

Perhaps we can take a little comfort from my theory that there are some folks who are close to automatons, they have perfect co-ordination and are as regular as clockwork, always use exactly the same routine and rarely deviate, intentionally or otherwise; they would ALWAYS remember to replace a memory card because they have programmed themselves to do it.

Then there are the creatives, who are frequently absent minded, explore the limits and stumble upon solutions.

I know which group I prefer.

What ?
I know there was something I wanted to post.

Oh Yes.
I always leave the SD/CF card in the camera otherwise there is a whole world where I might have left it.

Had a Great spotted woodpecker visit the orchard today. (it's quite common for us to get multiple woodpecker visits within days of each other for some reason).

Didn't bother with the camera....grabbed the wife's video. Lol

I had the very same thing happen a few days, I had pulled the card to down load it to the iMac and left it on the desk, Darn, stupid camera is broken, AAAAHH no owner is broken. I just happened to have another camera close so stole the card from it and got the shots. This whole think started a new search, I originally had a 32 gig card in that camera, It is nowhere to be found  gone not in any bag or body. Someday maybe I will remember where I put it. But probably not

old timers ya know     :banghead:
