I know most of you aren't, but happy Australia Day to one and all!

Appropriate way to celebrate is to chill out, have a couple of 'Stubbies' and a barbie with a few mates. Bonus points if you do all this at a beach!

Hi Rich, have a good day. A pic would be good.

I take it it's a public holiday. Does it commemorate a particular day? I suppose it's a bit like our 'August Bank Holiday' which sadly moved to September, or dammed nearly. End of August is too late here, that's almost winter.

It's Saturday here, is the holiday on a Friday?

Rich,

re: aren't, but happy
As a tennis-watcher I am not happy with the fireworks, it stopped play at today's ladies game.
Please explain, why the (local) fireworks is allowed to interfere with a (televised world--wide) event.
Regards, and have... Gilbert
PS fresh snow is falling outside in these parts of the world.

Best to you and all in Australia!

Fond memories of R&R in Sydney in 1969 as a Marine on break from Viet Nam. Most friendly and helpful folks I had ever met in my life.

   Some things are more important than TV. ;-)
In fact the fireworks were very good.
Either they need to start the final after or before the fireworks.

I think after the fireworks would be good.

I dont care about the adverts or the advertisers.
Does anyone watch them?  It is just an opportunity to go do something else.

Australia Day marks the formation of Australia as a nation, it was in some level of doubt when it happened, many wanted seperate countries. It's probably the equivalent of Independace day in the US, although ironically the Queens birthday is another public holiday here.

The Tennis always stops for the fireworks, they only interrupt the final two years out of seven however. Basically if the rest of the world wants to watch our tennis they're welcome but the only thing that ever stops the fireworks is extreme weather (fire risk). It'd be too distracting for the players so they pause.
