Dear All, Please can we have a little more tolerance, understanding and a maybe a little/lot less venting of spleen and bile. People read and post here for their education and enjoyment. I have deleted the thread that was started yesterday as some of the responses were completely OTT. Please can everyone be aware that we have a mixed audience from a wide range of cultures and there is absolutely no need to be offensive. There are guidelines/rules regarding post content that everyone has been pointed to in the past. http://www.nikondslr.uk/view_topic.php?id=2&forum_id=1 If in doubt then please consider others who might be on the sharp/receiving end of the post and moderate your post otherwise we will need to be more strict in our moderation. |

Yes, I think we are having the annual holiday drinking and posting fest. Some people just get more excited (aggravated) around the holidays. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas PS everyone has their own topics that set them off. |

So Christmas can be very tense for me when potentially gift bearing visitors come to stay!?!!? I guess that stems from something in my childhood??? How weird is that? If I had been there, i would have probably told the 3 wise men to 'go home!' |

Phew...that's a relief! I reckon I must have opened a present as a child and seen something really nasty in there....or been molested by the tooth fairy. I suppose being forced to sit on the lap of some hairy faced, fat guy who keeps saying "ho, ho ho," is enough to turn any child's head. And those nasty little elf things!!! Oh Lord I am starting to sound like Steve.. |

Eric, Well it sounds like you need to get a present opening person. I am sure that Jan can do that for you and only pass 'suitable' presents to you. |

I thought I had died and gone to heaven. If I could have worn them to school I would have. Now that I think back on it, those were some cold times and an out house to boot! Makes me realize just how very fortunate I am these days. Hope you enjoy the new slippers Eric! |

Now that the big day is gone and boxing day is past, how do you feel about your presents, Eric? I'm sure that time will heal the wounds of accepting the new 600mm Nikkor and the new D800E, don't you think? |

I'm sure that time will heal the wounds of accepting the new 600mm Nikkor and the new D800E, don't you think?Didn't get any Tom. Actually that's not true. Someone brought me a couple of small 'consumable' items on Christmas day .....despite being advised not to do so! We had a particularly nasty outbreak of relatives on Christmas day. Took me till Boxing day lunchtime to flush them out. Have just about recovered from it...and another lot are coming this weekend! Surely there are some shots you can have to protect against this? My wife and I gave up the Christmas present treadmill a long time ago. Christmas is for kids..and as we don't have any, there is not point! We do celebrate birthdays and wedding anniversaries though, and as both our birthdays are shortly after Christmas, it sort of compensates. I've ordered a camcorder for the wife. She has struggled for quality with the Flip in awkward lighting and the Nikon video option is a joke for handholding casual videoing. But I think she will need a new computer to cope with editing, as hers is a little old.May even get her an iMac if it's any good! |

iMac is currently the fast Mac machine available. A good choice if you stretch that Yorkshire wallet to the 27" iMac with 3.2GHz i7 processor and 8GB RAM. (£1699). You will need to put off that retirement for another year. |

I think Eric was meaning if the video camera was any good he would think about an iMac. Personally I don't like them, I have one and look after two, but for my own use I prefer the modular approach of the Mac mini and the i7 quad/oct is plenty fast enough for me. If I were doing serious video then it would have to be a 12 core Mac pro with plenty very fast drives and SSD's for the OS/swap drives. I am sure a (higher than base model) iMac would be fine for Jan making home movies. |
