to all you mac users out there don't forget a new operating system iOS-6 started last night ,that includes all i-macs ,i-pads and i-phones .seems quiet good so far .

iOS 6 is only for the small hand held i-Devices.

Not the iMac, although there a number of updates which have come live as of last night. Mountain Lion update 10.8.2 should be publicly available from the MAS, Mac App Store, together with iPhoto and depending on what software you run a variety of other updates.

Nothing earth shattering unless your life revolves around FaceBook. Minor improvements, Save As is back, almost the same but be careful about the tick box until you have got used to it. Safari is still quitting unexpectedly from time to time, but I got used to that now. Everything else seems stable enough.

Is io6 worth the upgrade for the iPad Robert ?

Posted by blackfox: Thu Sep 20th, 2012 10:09 4th Post
done both the i-mac and i-pad as a matter of course ian ,you only have to miss one upgrade and your wallowing .
not very impressed with apples map system on there so far but thats the only niggle ,but safari on the i-mac does seem to run smoother ,i am on lion at the moment but hopefully will upgrade to mountain lion shortly (as soon as my lad has the time in fact) both upgrades to iOS-6 take a fair bit of time to download ,but its free so go for it

I haven't used iOS6 yet but will be soon. I would go for it.

As for Mountain Lion I have been using it daily since the beta was released on all my Macs apart from those which are too old of course. I haven't had any real issues with it. It's fairly well sorted now.

IOS 6 is fine. The changes really don't change too much.

For me the most terrific thing is that Reminders now works across the platforms and I can ditch my 3P todo list :-)

There are a bunch of little things but as Robert says, unless you use facebook and twitter a lot, they are all pretty secondary.

One really cool feature is Passbook, but it is a case of the chicken and the egg - a great concept of having all your cards and passes in an app, but there are no cards an passes ready for it yet... But BRACE YOURSELF :-) !!!

I would do all the upgrades Iain... I have and they all work fine.

Tom

just been reading up on the flak they have been getting over the maps ,supposedly supplied by tom-tom ,there a complete and utter joke ,places like solihull ,and bangor are missing entirely crewe and wrexham are shown as one town despite being 40 miles apart .this is most definetly the biggest ever bollock that apple have ever dropped .

and most of scotland is obscured by cloud ,no change there then :rofl::rofl:

I upgraded my iPhone 4s. No problems. One bit of coolness - it adds a panorama feature to the Camera app.

 As a techno junkie now I am a Mac user I dont see the need to constantly upgrade.
I have on Mac Mini on Mountain Lion, the rest (3x Macbook Pros and an old Mac Mini) all live on SL very happily on Snow Leopard. No doubt my iPad will want the iOS6 upgrade but that is dow n to me allowing it to do that. :-).

I find little joy in upgrading my Macs as they run flawlessly. If it aint broke dont fix it!
Different story on Windoze that needs to be rebuilt every year.

Sorry to upset the apple cart....I don't like it as the main thing I used to use were Google Maps and YouTube. The new Apple version of maps is utterly useless.....doesn't recognize place names or post codes......never mind, I've still got my trusty HTC running Android

Just bought and iPad and updated with no probs to iOS 6. Maps has its problems but I love the integration of Apple maps and address book and the ease of getting directions at one touch. Airplay to my Apple tv works a treat.
Where I live near Bristol UK the papers and tv made a fuss about distorted images in maps of the famous suspension bridge but the prob was only in the 3D view.

He should call Apple, ask for an advanced repair (free if he purchased Applecare, $40 if not) and continue to use until replacement arrives and he can ship the faulty unit back
