More on the worst town in the UK. This time focussing on town hall corruption.

What would they do with the millions, yes millions fleeced from the motorist from using cash cow non-compliant road & bus lane signage?

Answer: approve themselves a move to a new marble & pilkington gaff at a cost of £60 million.

60 million quid, and they can't even bring road signs to standard.

60 million quid, and there are still homeless people on the Reading streets.

60 million quid, and the roads are full of potholes.

Reading Borough Council, THE most corrupt in the land.

I regret you may be singling out that council unfairly as this sort of behaviour is mirrored through many UK councils.

Greedy men lining their pockets with other people's money....it's everywhere.

Our local council did something similar 4 years ago. One of my clients, an office fitting specialists, did the fit out. £700 desks for a starter!!

3 years later the, council withdrew from the premises as the "running costs had become prohibitive". It was 'sold' to the local housing association at a knock down price....no guesses who the directors are on their board.

Yes I suppose you're right Eric. I've just had a vision; next riots......target; town halls. If that were to happen I'd say they had it coming, for years.

Interestingly, Reading council has published it's 'anti-corruption audit' nowhere in the document do they mention the council being bent and raking in millions from illegal PCN's. Not a mention.

They do however mention how many single mum they've rapped for trying to get a few extra quid of MY money, which I am quite happy to give to a single mum.

I think local councils are thieving scum.

Well it just a smaller version of Parliament.

The whole country and lack of constitutional reform needs to be looked at.

Parliament current 650+ MPs  Why?
Cut to 50 who do rather than chat and hawhaugh!  Debate televised and attendance monitored.

The other 600+ who are most lawyers and solicitors should be occupied as law reformers.  All laws repealed and recast every 10 year to ensure currency with modern life.
The brief would be that the new laws must be framed in Simple English (not legalese - This was meant to be done but of course cronyism and self-interest dictate otherwise currently.).
Payment by results e.g. Piece work when they finish the new law they get paid.
No allowances, no free meals and anyone caught with hand in the pot gets it removed (physically if necessary).

That would reduce the hangers on and free lunch brigade.

If they dont like it then all Benefits removed after 6 months - same rule for all.

Well I don't see a justification in messing about,......just grab them by the face from their ivory towers & bludgeon them to the nearest mass grave. People would be welcome to spit on them along the way.

Incidentally I have a PCN issue with Reading council scum....get this;..for "being in a bus lane"

I have to wonder who the hell do these disgusting specimens think they are?

To the best of my knowledge Mr A. Hitler was unsuccessful in subjecting our island to totalitarian rule. Additionally, I don't recognise our rights as comparable to what one might have encountered under apartheid in South Africa. Since when was 'being' somewhere a bloody offence?

But the irony here is that actually there is no bus lane. It's one of Reading's widely reported scams.....signed as restricted access but enforced by spy camera as a bus lane.

I went into Reading (thank God I don't live there) this morning and photographed loads of stuff including deliberately non-compliant signage. To my surprise, they are actually in contravention of the Fraud act 2007, which makes it an offence to withhold information, and to cause or attempt to cause loss to another.

Either way you would not believe the arrogance of this nest of crooks, and the harassing letters they sent to my home address, which as it happens they got because the DVLA grassed me up.

Talking of DVLA, did you know they give PPC's and local authorities your address details for a fee of £2.50......30 pieces of silver?

As far as I'm concerned I would not be saddened if mass crowds turned on DVLA and town halls, & turned the gutters red.

Mindful of it now being 'allegedly' illegal to incite riot i.e. exercise English enshrined right to fight back against tyrannical government, I would go so far as to say I'd be slightly pleased if these filthy thieving scum were given a lesson.

I wish I knew how to run a website.......man would I annoy the crap out of RBC! photographically expose every act of their thievery.

Now, back to useless reading; went int a bar/cafe this morning wanting a breakfast....

.....no one at the separate breakfast seating area, waited like a spare at a wedding, still no one asks if I would care to be seated.....

......go to bar instead....

young one behind bar asks what I want....

...." I would like a full breakfast please ".....

Nob head: "where are you sitting" (at that point I was standing at the bar)

me: " I would like to sit at a table"

Nob head: "yeah but what table number are you sitting at?"

me; BANG!....."I'm stood in front of you, I am not sitting at a table, I require you to disengage your lazy a**e and especially what you think is a brain and PROVIDE me with seating!"

Nob head; "yes but I need to know what table number you want, where are you sitting?"

me: "oh f***....do I look like I'm sitting on a 9 inch dildo or something? eh? just order me a breakfast you thick get and put it on a bloody table!"

Nob head: " but where should I put the breakfast?'

me..." listen you thick twt, you're supposed to take the order from the customer, provide the customer with a seat at a table, how simple is that?"

Nob head: " but sir I still need to know which table to give you your breakfast"

me: ...now going Fukushima mode....."YOU PUT THE F'N BREAKFAST ON THE TABLE WHERE YOU SEATED ME YOU IDIOT PRIMATE!"

......my response at that point is unpublishable. however suffice to say the idiot was called one and was lucky to have escaped an assault before I walked out of the premisses.

Still consider Reading is not useless? think again, or just go there and sample general standards of service to see it for yourself.

Though if one went to Oxford it would have gone something like this: "good morning sir,".....offers seat. Simple.

Still think Reading Council is not corrupt?.....look how they waste your money;

Dear Reading Borough Council,

After seeing the shocking news that Leicester City Council were not
prepared for a zombie outbreak
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lei...), I
was heartened to learn that Bristol City Council were prepared
(http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/pr...).

I wish to understand the Borough Councils provisions and level of
preparedness in case of a zombie apocalypse.

I will understand if my bins aren't collected during this time, but
the beheading and safe disposal of the living dead needs to be a
top council priority.

Yours faithfully,

.....and they actually used resource to answer this.

Ask them under FOI to disclose the CEO's expenses however, and they arrogantly refuse to comply.

Not a bad manifesto. But I agree with eric .... Reading is not unique.

Read some Jasper fforde (unless you are him of course) and chill out.

Meanwhile, ask why so many of the forum are ex-pats

Could it be .......Because the standards that were once present no longer exist or are respected.

In a country where gloss and bullshit exist side by side and they cant see the spin or smell the stench of corruption because they are suffering from the I'm too busy looking for another £$€ syndrome.

Eric; "Greedy men lining their pockets with other people's money....it's everywhere."

....how about this then: Reading's CCTV network allegedly there to protect people, but in fact there for no reason than anti-motorist revenue collection, read on:

....Mr X, managing Director of E-mpirical has the following to say of himself:

"I founded e-mpirical ltd to enable SMEs and Public Sector organisations to become fully aware of the benefits and opportunities provided by technology, enhance their business and process reviews as a consequence and build the infrastructure, confidence and competence to deliver sustainable improvement or radical change. The company's philosophy, 'People and organisations first, reflects the commitment to use technology as part of the solution rather than an end in itself."

His Resume:
Current
Managing Director at e-mpirical ltd
Past
Managing Director at GTW Ltd
Project Director CyberSkills at ICL
Project Director at Reading Borough Council
Chief Revenues Officer at Plymouth City Council
Revenues Officer at Wycombe District Council

Specialties
Electronic Government, Project and Programme Management, Organisational Change, Systems Thinking, Lean, Continuous Improvement, ICT Strategy, Partnership Working, Building the capacity to deliver local solutions to National Government initiative.

So this Orwellian character, Mr X, who specialises in delivering electronic governance, spends twenty years in local government including Reading Borough Council as a Project Director and Chief Revenue Officer at Plymouth....and gets contracts for his Company from the local government he used to work for.

Image of cohorts acquired from public domain, pictured L-R; Mr X, Civil Enforcement Manageress, Council Office Wallah.

Anyway I have to go outside and get some fresh air, thankfully the wind is not blowing from Reading.

Hi There
Sorry to say but this is a terminal illness that is happening everywhere, the politicians have united into a slimy sticky mass that sucks up money and power.
and leaves nothing for common folk
Here it is known as the giant sucking sound, Ray Stevens even wrote a song about it http://www.raystevens.com
I find it amazing that so many people are very upset with the government and yet they keep on keeping on seemingly impervious to any attempts to stop them

Oh I guess I used up my 2 cents worth LOL

I dont think that I better had post too much here as I so anti-government in the format offered in USA and UK and most countries, except Switzerland, that I now sit squarely in the direct democracy camp.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_democracy

Either that or dictatorship where I am the dictator but I wouldnt vote for that option!!

Here is a couple of quotes I found

A politician is a person that will give up your life for his country

Unknown

A man must watch his life, liberty, and property when legislature is in session

Mark Twain
