| I know someone here will have the answer to this; The thought occurred to me that an ipad might be very useful to me in my work. It would be handy to have something light and slim that could function as a portable photo library. Also I have heard that ipads have an impressive battery charge duration which is a bonus. Now, what puzzles me is that since these things don't have optical drive(?) how would you get photos on them from your camera? I know that they have a small built-in camera, but I must use my Sony camera. Does the ipad have USB? Any help appreciated

| The iPad has a multi-pin 'Docking' socket it also has wi-fi for in-out. Are we talking new or used? There is a small kit you can get with two leads one of which has an SD slot, the other a USB slot. They used to be in short supply in the early days, Eric had to ask Tom to source one from the US when he got his iPad but they should be readily available now. The other way is to put the images onto the MBP and transfer them by Synchronising with the iPad via the Dock or the included male USB lead. Unless of course your camera has wi-fi. My little P3 Nikon has and would be handy for that. Or one of those SD cards with built in wi-fi would probably do the trick. You can also use a PC to charge and synch the iPad. If you do it from camera to iPad the images are camera size (Big files) if you load the camera files onto your MBP and into iPhoto when it synchs it only loads smaller files into the iPad, but they are still perfectly OK to view, I can't tell the difference. The new retina display is well worthwhile if you are wanting to go new, the difference for images is clearly visible. If you are talking new or version 2 they have two cameras, one facing you and the other facing away. The earlier version only has a rather poor camera facing you I think. I don't actually have one but a friend has an early one which I set up for him from time to time. He has 12,000 images in it, the main images are in his iMac and he synchs the iPad if he needs to update it from the iMac. It's a 64Gb version, I don't think it's 1/3 full, it also has a couple of thousand music tracks loaded. Interestingly the iPad 1 will still take the latest iOS software iOS 5.1, with no issues, whether it will take iOS 6, due to be released later this year, remains to be seen, it probably will. If I haven't got that 100% right then no doubt someone will correct me because it's all from memory and my memory is not 100% nowadays!

Looks like you have bitten the fruit of the garden.  I have an iPad2 with 32GB RAM it is great for what you want to do. The original iPad may be suitable but the newer iPad2 works well, the newest iPad3 has an even better screen. The connector is called the Camera connector. | That has been a great help guys, thanks. I'm going to get one (but not at Reading) Edit: I've had a bit more time to evaluate this macbook....not bad, not bad at all. I like it, pretty damn good for a TFT display. What amazes me is how fast the thing is for 1G RAM, a win machine would be a lot slower with the same memory.

| Actually thinking about it I think there is already an iPad thread about the start of this new forum, there may be some helpful info there Steve. I think we were debating the merits of an iPad 2 compared with an iPad 3.

| More on the Macbook... .....I mentioned earlier how quick the thing is compared to a windows laptop, well, something else has left me stunned; just how flipping fast it responds with mail. I set up my POP3 account, and believe it or not I access my hotmail account within one second. Even I can't log in to hotmail that quick! Saving images from web is also lightening quick. Direct to iphoto and the quality is damn good. Until I got this Macbook I would never have imagined how good a laptop could be. Very impressed.

Yes I was always happy with the product, just that Reading bunch let the side down I feel. As for the book's age,well what can I say?...not bad at all for something this old. I have wear on the A & S keys, which tells me it's had a fair bit of use, but for a TFT screen it's done pretty well to retain the quality it has. I've seen the new displays, and that would make me buy an imac or a new macbook air, however I actually have a specific requirement for an ipad so it will have to be one of those next.

| Hi Steve I have an iPad 3 64gig and I use it as a photo library, with over 600 photos it still has very high percentage of ram left I use it to demo my photos to prospective customers it is awesome for this as I can do some editing on the spot to show what can be done. There is no going back to an android or windoze tab, I sold my android tab cheap just to get rid of the frustration. I can't believe it took me so long to come over from the dark side the word for the day is sync!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  all the best Ed

| Hi Steve Recently bought an new iPad (well was 'til today) 32gb. Stacks of capacity and saved £50 by buying from the Apple refurb shop. Next day delivery and full warranty. Synched my iPhoto snaps, music etc with no probs over wifi or plugging into main Mac via USB . Good shopping.

| I know I started this one, however I no longer have need for an ipad at work since I m no longer with that bag of brown stuff joke of a company (Clue: something to do with ejector seats) I've joined the masses of the unemployed, so I don't see myself needing an ipad at the moment. NB: I also gave up looking for work, waste of time waste of energy dealing with a sea of nothing but lead ads from agency liars. Am considering selling up and buying a B&B possibly in Yorkshire. No more toys for a while I'm afraid. But if you guys want to talk about ipads...be my guest.

Don't get me wrong, pretty enough place, I'd just begrudge going there as a tourist and boosting their economy in any way. I paid enough to subsidise it during my working years. Besides I'd get rapidly bored out of my skull listening to all that incessant moaning about the genocidal English, which has nothing to do with me even if it were true, simply because I am not 300 years old, so I wasn't there at the time. Wales?.....been there lots, never had an issue or problem, enjoyed every visit. Always been treated with courtesy and well looked after. Nah, Wales or Yorkshire for me any day.
