| Now here's a thing....ever since the latest OS 9 update on my iPad, this forums icon on my desktop has gone white...completely blank. I resaved the page to my desktop and for a while it stayed showing some sort of unique image. But after switching off and on today...I have a white square again! All other apps and saved page links are the same ...no problem. It's just the Nikon DSLR site link! Thoughts?

| Try deleting the link and re-saving it. My one is now a blue square with a N in the middle many of my sites are like that. Some however are still graphical icons.

| Never posted from my iPad before, was curious what it would be like. I am not clear how you saved the forum icon to the home screen or desktop? I saved the recent topics page to the home screen and got a tiny image of the recent topics page which is always my point of entry to the forum. This is my first home screen. The Forum website link is bottom centre above the Safari icon. What a faff to add an image from the iPad! I ended up posting the image from my desktop. Grrrr I really find these things hard to use. | OK, so how did you post that image? I tried posting it from the iPad but it was too large??? to post on the forum. I tried all sorts using the iPad software but I couldn't find any way of reducing the image resolution or of re saving it, I couldn't even use 'Air Drop' to get it to my Mac mini, however, it had propagated to my desktop Mac mini via iCloud so I brought it up in 'Photos' then did a screen shot again on the Mac and posted it from there. I guess being a Retina iPad it's higher resolution but I expected to be able to reduce the resolution with software. I suppose there must be an App somewhere to reduce the resolution but there are usually a zillion to choose from, mostly junk or full or adverts, so I give up. How can something so simple be so complicated?

| My screenshot of my desktop is over 4 Mb, the above screenshot is only 980Kb, more than twice what the forum allows. It seems there is a wide range of image sizes to be found when doing a screenshot on the iPad. Attachment: Screen Shot 2015-09-22 at 10.27.52.jpg (Downloaded 25 times)

| Easy to post from iPad. Create the image. Reduce size of image to be less than 2Mb in an editing app if necessary. Go to forum, create a new post. Save the post then immediately edit it and add a smaller than 2Mb image using the Choose File button and the image comes from My Photo Stream. Attachment: image.jpg (Downloaded 19 times)

| Thanks JK, I realise about the posting bit I simply hadn't realised that a screenshot from an iPad could be well over 4Mb, especially when Eric's screenshot worked perfectly. I will stick to posting from a proper computer in future! LOL I don't see the point in learning a whole set of new tricks just for the sake of it. Especially given most of my images are on my main computer. I only used the iPad because I was trying to understand what Eric's original problem was. In my eyes the iPad is a neat solution, waiting for a problem I don't yet have.

I am using an iPad mini ...maybe that generates smaller size screen grabs? But back to my original issue....why is the Nikon forum icon the ONLY one that goes white /blank? I lost the N motif when the OS was updates to 9 this week, so I am guessing it's something to do with that...but why does it ONLY affect this forum link?

| I use the Safari browser for my reading of the forum and have it as one of five continuously open tabs so I dont have to reload it. If I remember correctly Steve Saunders generated this icon for people to use. I cant remember how it was done. I think it is one of those things that breaks when new functionality is introduced or changed in iOS. | I think the answer will lie in System Integrity Protection = SIP aspect of the iOS. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Integrity_Protection This is linked with iOS 9 development, the two OS's are gradually converging on a common path with something close to mirroring between the two OS's. Obviously they perform different functions in different environments but it appears Apple have the two OS's on converging paths, sandboxing and denying software access to core aspects of the OS. The recent discovery of the fake Xcode app building software in China may not be such a surprise for the Apple software engineers, my guess is they have seen this coming and are gradually trying to make both the OS's more secure in the longer term by making them more rigid and demanding greater compliance from websites and Apps. As for Eric's Icon I think it's just iOS ignoring something it doesn't recognise, i.e. doesn't comply, if Steve did create a fix, it was only a temporary one.

But it's strange that I can regenerate the icon and it sits on the desktop ok....until I click on it. Once I click on it, it seems to wipe the icon image. I've resaved page icons for other sites in same way ....when I click on them they remain! So it's something unique to this forum.

| The bookmarks from my Mac computers are all available on the iDevices as well but I find the bookmarks messy to access compare with the desktop, an icon on the home screen is much easier. I like to arrive at the 'Recent Posts' page just to check if there have been any fresh posts since my last visit.

That's what I do Robert and agree it's easier to have a desktop link than going through bookmarks. I should just reiterate that the link works ok...it's just a white square. Not that it matters but I am just intrigued and mystified why it's the only icon that can't hold its image!

| This is really funny.....just saw there was another OS update to 9.1 ( guess yesterday's version was flawed! ) So I updated. Then created a new link to the forum on my homepage...Ok. Clicked on it to go to the forum...ok. Then returned to the homepage there it still was. A smile crept across my face at the thought that Apple had done an update just to stop my icon going blank. Then before my eyes the icon picture disappeared and it went ....white. Weird.

| Well I am really disappointed with all you techie Apple experts. Why didn't one of you say " you need to empty the iPad's cache, Eric". I would have said "thanks I will try that" .....and it would have worked. The Nikon icon is no longer plain white. Got the suggestion from a caravan forum....think I better ask them about photography issues as well.
