So, where has everyone gone? This forum used to be buzzing. I looked at the dates on some of the posts and it seems deserted. Is anyone out there? |

The site has never been big on actual photography ....more a place to share experiences of/with equipment. It's inevitable that as digital equipment matures and experience increases, the need for help and discussion diminishes. It's not helped by the dirth of newcomers to photography. Sad but true. For my part I am trying to sell off equipment as I wind up my business. I've come to the realisation that it might be better to sell everything and buy what I really need. But selling on eBay has been a bit irritating and PX prices are derisory. I haven't taken a single photograph in the last 2 months ...that wasn't a photo of equipment for sale.  I also know that Robert is busily trying to finish building his car., so has been avoiding the distraction of the Internet and photography as much as possible. It 96% finished and I am looking forward to him visiting with it in the not too distant future. I sold him my D200IR body a while back and it was too much of a temptation, as he DID take some excellent photos. |

I'm in Mexico at present. I think that many of the more mature websites are suffering as Eric says. We are in a truly digital age and many of the younger people want their phone to take their pictures so they can instantly post to Facebook or stupid Twitter. Please can someone explain to me what value Twitter has except for self promotion by Hollywood Z list wannabees! |

Eric retiring? Heavens. I have semi-retired. In so much as I am not a photographer by profession anymore. I got fed up with everyone wanted you to sweat blood for no money. In fact, I start my new job at the end of the month where I will be working as Office Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator for an ecofriendly youth charity based at Findhorn. I am looking forward to it very much as it will be different but using a lot of my mac based skills for media based promotions as well as working with the volunteers in Russia and south African countries. As for my photography, I have sold all my Nikon (and Canon) equipment and am now using a Fuji X-Pro 1 with 18-135mm fuji lens, which I find meets all my needs and is a LOT lighter to carry around all day. I have had some terrible back and neck problems which I am sure stem from toting big pro cameras and heavy glass for many years. |

Still active in photography, not doing much pro work, a bit of video. Purchased a Nikon Coolpix P900 superzoom 24 to 2000mm eq. at the end of March. Enjoying some of the "amateur features" such as live histogram, WiFi, GPS, fully articulating LCD, continuous auto-fucus video shooting, and quality pix at a low price. |

Lol The truth is that professional photography has changed for all of us. I never did work for the general public only commercial work as general public want everything immediately and at unrealistic prices. Never done a wedding or personal portraits. I did quite a few corporate portraits but it never fired me. I remember being asked once to photograph a group of solicitors. "What's your hourly rate?" They asked. ‣150/hour" I replied. "That's high!" They exclaimed. " You started it!" I replied........didn't get the job. Lol. I feel much the same about heavy pro gear ...and am starting to sell items. I have the Fuji XT for colour and a converted XE1 for IR together with 3lenses...the whole kit is lighter than a D3 body! But I have to say I have been seduced by the feel of the D750. The extra deep hand grip make it easier to hand hold and with a weight no more than the D7000 it's a tempting option to consider before a I sell ALL my Fx lenses. Good luck with the new job. I too have started a new job....revamping our garden.....hard work! |

Funnily enough, I was thinking about you the other week as I passed through Nairn en route to Inverness and wondered what you were up to. |

There is lots of activity and interest in photography online, but it has moved to Facebook etc. The younger generation uses this extensivly. Personally I find FB an abomination as it has no decent search facility bar simple words and person names. Also the threads have no real chronology other than who posted last to a thread so information gets lost quickly. What is required is the ability to have decent search facility and to open/collapse thread content, these threads should be stored in ascending/descending chronology of first post! Mr Zuckerberg if you are listening I am available for consultancy! |

In S Ontario we get 1 to 2 meters of snow a year and this is always an extra burden on top of what ever else life has burdened us with. So to cheer you up a bit I was pointing out that hopefully, at least you don't have to worry about waking up to a driveway full of snow. |

I'm like everyone else in that I have more or less retired and have changed most of my gear to Fuji with the exception of one lens and camera body for wildlife. Once Fuji bring out a camera that focuses on birds in flight and their 100-400 lens is out I will go all Fuji. |

I am waiting for that 100-400mm lens as well as then I will release my Nikon 400mm f2.8 AFS. I dont think that the current Fujis can really do in flight bird photos except with luck and skill. I hope that the new cameras that will come in the next year or so will be 24MP and faster AF. Then I am truly done with camera purchases. Then I will think about selling off my Nikon kit. |

Had a chance to use the Sony a7S for a few days and realy liked it. Would buy one of the a7 models if there were a Nikon to Sony a7 adapter with an electronic interface. |

Sony make very nice cameras but their support is dreadful. Also when they bring out a new model they drop all support for the old ones so you camera may become unsupported after less than a year. Sony lens range is not great. Personally I would go for the Olympus cameras if they had a decent sized sensor. IMHO the 4/3 sensor is too small to produce great quality under low light and high ISO. Even APS-C struggles wheres my D3 and D3S are brilliant as is the D800 and D600. |

Sorry about the link, I use Clipmate and must of had the wrong URL. i'm still around ,but switched back to canon after the d7100 debacle .happy enough with what i have now but downgraded my gear to two bodies and two lenses ,sick of carrying stuff around that never gets used .and will probably sell one of the bodies eventually as the wife has her hands tied with a new puppy. still like popping in here as its a friendly site |

Following a barrage of eMails and PM's from JK, he has asked me to stand in for him while he is away. I have been in the shed all day wiring my new car. Apart from the odd snap and recording my progress with my car build, I haven't taken a single photograph so far this year. Once the car is back on the road for the first time since February 1991, I hope to be using it to trundle about in the Lake District and further afield. As for Fb my ex wife, who practically lives on Fb, sat me down over a coffee and spent well over an hour trying to explain to me what it does and I am still bewildered, I really can't see what it is trying to achieve, even less can I see any reason to engage with it. But then I don't have television or a telephone either, so I am probably beyond help. Robert One thing the car build is doing is creating local interest, I have a succession of visitors who call by to see how I am going on and to check up on my progress. This is the sort of car I am aiming to replicate, roughly...  This was taken about a month ago.  I am not trying to build a replica, rather take some of the more appealing features of the Alfa Romeo style and re-create them in my own way. |

Well I had been working 12-14/7 up until Easter but my left knee has been playing up, when I compared it with my right knee it's quite swollen and lumps where the other knee has hollows... So I have backed off a bit, only doing a max of 12 hour days now. Just finished, been wiring the front lamps. Now have headlamps and almost indicators!!! I am gradually reading the recent posts, frankly there doesn't seem to have been that much activity here since Christmas. Still no sign of the fabled D400. I showed the guy who lives on Oakdale (The boat in the IR photograph) and he was well impressed. He wants a copy, but I think it would have to be printed on stainless because his boat has sunk twice since Christmas, not as big a deal as it sounds, I doubt it has much more then 2 ft of water under it even at normal high tides. Anything on board needs to be robust and pretty unaffected by salt water. He lost a couple of TV's the first time it sank. |
