The latest firmware for the Fuji XT1 is version 4.0 This firmware is meant to bring a significant improvement in AF performance. And it does! I have tested this camera with the 56mm f1.2 lens versus my D3S and D600 with the 24-120 AFS VR. I have used these Nikons for a few years and feel confident in their performance. So what of the tests? Well I have to say that at close distances i.e. 2-3metres the Nikon locks AF quickly and I feel more able to capture the image I want to. This may be a trial and error thing where I need to use different AF mode on the Fuji XT1 but the combination of low light, fast AF lock requirement and the EVF refresh rate means that the shooting experience is less good than with my Nikons. Some of this is down to the EVF performance but a super fast AF lock like I get with the Nikons makes for me being confident to shoot multiple single shots and get good sharp images. So will I buy a second XT1 body? Not now. Will I buy another Nikon body? I am debating getting rid of my D3 and D3S and getting a D810 or D750. I dont want the MPs of the D810 but I do want its feature set. Some desired functionality items are missing on the D750. I guess if I could get a good price on my D3 and D3S then the D750 is favourite as I would also like the 200-500mm lens. |

It is lightweight (same as the D7200!) which is great for portability and probably enhances the feel in the hand. The file size is noticeably larger than the D3 which no doubt contributes to the inferior buffer performance. I have no idea how responsive the D810 is, but if I was after D3 performance, I wouldn't go for a D750...there's a noticeable difference. |

Well I guess I stick with what I have. D3, D3S, D600, D800 is good enough for anything I do. My wallet is tighter than a Aberdonian from Yorkshire! I want that new Nikon 200-500mm to complete my lens line up. |

I hope he won't mind me saying....but I watched Graham reporting on the 80 -400. I even considered selling my 500mm being wooed with the thought of huge weight saving. But then I saw Graham being dissatisfied with the performance of that lens....as his specific requirement of bird photography challenged it. He then bought a prime. I haven't heard how he is doing with that lens but I am willing to bet he will be finding it better for his needs. So what needs does the 200-500 fill? How is that going to be different to the 80-400 ( apart from the extra 100mm) in terms of compromise over a prime. Can't actually believe I am saying this, being the owner of many zooms....but there is no doubt that there is a trade off in quality when zooming. The 200-500 may be an extremely convenient, lightweight tool in your a**enal...but will it have the exacting quality of a 200, 300, 400, or 500mm ? Or will it just be 'good enough at the price'? |

I always wanted the 80-400 and instead bought the Sigma version as it performed just as well as the Nikon old version. I also campaigned for the Nikon 80-400 f4-5.6 AF VR to be upgraded from just AF VR to AFS VR but when it came Nikon hiked the price so it was not what I considered to be good value. I have Sigma 12-24 f4.5-5.6, Nikon 24-70 f2.8 AFS, 70-200 f2.8 AFS VR, and would like to add the Nikon 200-500 f5.6 AFS VR. This completes a fantastic zoom range and I also have some fast prime lenses. I have in the last few years become more disenchanted with new offerings from Nikon in the camera bodies. I would currently probably consider the D7200 as a replacement for my D300 but it has the same issues as the D750 regarding the accessories it uses are all via the new usb-like connector rather than the 10pin connector found on the D810 and D4S. |
