Canon have brought out the 7D mkii and looking at the specs it looks quite impressive.
I wonder if Nikon will respond?

Is this the canon equivalent of the mythical d400?

Nikon only seem to make FF cameras.
I would be very happy if Nikon respond with a new professional grade replacement for the D300S.

Yes.

Maybe there's hope for us yet.

I certainly hope that a D400 will arrive sooner rather than later but the D7100 seems to be Nikon's best in the DX range but it doesnt have the build of the D300.

Here's hoping that Canon bringing this out might shake Nikon out of its slumber with the D400.

You are not tempted by the new Canon, Iain?

Not at the moment Eric, I can't see it doing anything that I can't do with what I have now.

Like we have discussed before. The latest technology is now more evolutionary than revolutionary!
I cant say that I have felt excited by any of the new cameras since the D3, even though I have purchased a D600 and D800.
The new Fuji XT1 camera is more interesting and has some fine new technology but again it is not revolutionary.

The new focusing system is interesting and the crop sensor could be useful foe the wildlife.

sticking with my 1dmk3 iain ,more than pleased with it

I still think that unless you go for the 1ds mk3 that the 6D is the best camera in the line but I am no expert with Canon stuff.
The twirly dial on the back that adjusts stuff and chooses menu items puts me off.
Nikon ergonomics suit me better.
There is little or nothing between the camera and lens ranges from Nikon and Canon.
To each his or her own choice!

Thats it JK, to me they are just a tool for a job and everyone has there preference.

I used a D7100 for 3 weeks, mainly for video, and found the menues to be amaturish and rather anoying in general.
Would have rather used my D5100 except for the slightly better video in the D7100.

I think Nikon now need to get their finger out and produce a pro spec D300 replacement.
I know of a few Nikon users that are looking at the new 7Dmkii.

Well I bought a 7Dmkii and wish I hadn't as in two months it's been back to Canon with focus issues.
Just got it back today so let's hope it works right or I might be looking seriously at Nikon again.

Well still no better, twice at Canon and they say they can't find a fault, a burst of 8 shots of a gull in flight and 1 sharp shot, the rest soft.

I'm not sure there is a better Nikon model though! I'm pretty underwhelmed by the offerings from Canon and Nikon as they seem to be Me2 items rather than innovations and new technologies.
If you like Canon interface then stick with Canon and same goes for Nikon users.
I dont think there is much to choose between these two for wuality and operational benefits.
With Fuji the game changes as these are different beasts for different uses but the Fuji cant compete with Nikon and Canon for sport, wildlife and action sequences. Either the AF isnt fast enough or the lens range is too limited. This will change in the next 18 months but there is still pain on this early adopter route!

You may be right, JK..but I feel the Fuji needs more than just longer lenses to compete with DSLRs on the speed dependant subjects you mention,

Still needing to assess thoroughly the new Fuji XT1 firmware v4.0
I'll be better positioned to comment then.

Surely all you need to do is take it a Flameno event? If it copes with that it will handle most day to day uses...apart from birds in flight!
We have drifted off topic on Iain's thread.

That is true on both counts but I am currently too busy to do that with pool cleaning and other DIY projects I have on.

Still with Canon JK, with a 1Dmkiv a bit heavier but works!
