I am looking for a L bracket with Arca fitting for my D850. It need to completely span the base of the D850 and have a hole for access to the battery compartment. I have one on most of my cameras. The Z7 has a really nice version as have my Fuji cameras. Here is a nice one I have on my Fuji XH1. Does anyone have a good one they can suggest? I have found one on eBay for the D850 but it is obvious that it only covers part of the base and has no extended base and hatch to allow the battery to be inserted. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1pc-L-Bracket-camera-Battery-Quick-Release-QR-Plate-Grip-Holder-For-Nikon-D850/313113001135 This one looks like it would work but the ebay listing photo is deceptive. It looks long enough but actually isnt as it would have a hatch for the battery. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Nikon-D850-SLR-Camera-Quick-Release-L-Plate-Bracket-Mount-Holder-Hand-Grip/202974730943 It is too short when compared with my Fuji and Nikon ones see attached photo of my Fuji XH1 camera. I am sure that for those who use a tripod extensively L brackets are indispensable. However for those of us who hand hold almost everything they would appear to do absolutely nothing for the handling of the camera. I shall, continue, to do without them.

I use a tripod extensively, especially for my flower photography, except rarely outdoor flowers move in the A friend once said that I am good at welding because I am so doddery with my hands, I manage a natural weave when I weld without even trying! A moving flower and doddery hands are not a good recipe for sharp photography so I try to remove one of the ingredients of shake by employing a tripod for static subjects like flowers and astro photography which together seem to comprise the majority of my photography. As for the 'L' bracket, as Geoff says people who use tripods and regularly switch between landscape and portrait orientation find the 'L' bracket indispensable. A good friend of mine probably invented the principle when he cut an Arca Swiss rail in two and drilled and tapped holes to bolt the two parts together into an L shape. The camera accessory industry leapt upon the idea and it became an 'essential' accessory, as it is almost guaranteed to make the user look like a 'professional'! While I have toyed with the idea, I use the Manfrotto rectangular dovetail mount for my cameras, only use Arca Swiss for specific applications like my pano head, in addition I try to avoid upright framing as much as possible so I don't see an 'L' bracket as a useful addition to my gear.

Try looking in EBAY for a Really Right Stuff (yes, really :)) L bracket. I have one for my 810's. They're not full length, but they leave room for the battery compartment. RRS is just about the best quality brackets, plates and ball heads I've ever used. Not the cheapest but hands down the best. Rob
