Hey all - should the d3 and d3s battery chamber door be identical? I just bought a used one on the ebay and it doesn't fit my d3s...looking at all the normal places, I can't find anything that suggests that they should be different. Have I been duped with a knock-off?

Hi According to Nikon, the BL-4 battery compartment cover is the same for D3 and D3s. There was a thread on DPreview way back when that some off-brand copies did not fit the D3s. Hope this helps Ed

Yes the battery doors should be identical. As Ed says there are Chinese copy doors that are provided by some ebay sellers with their batteries that are almost identical. In fact they also have flimsy catches compared to the real thing!

iPlaid, I do not have one for comparison, so I cannot tell if the original has type-markings (it does have a green marking near the O/C key). If it were supplied with a battery, it may be a cheap copy. I had somethine similar with a battery for a D1, I could exchange the cheap-copy-door-latch for an original in seconds. On the other hand, why would one try to save a penny on a $25 accessory to go with a $5000 camera? Regards, Gilbert

Well I bought it used thinking it was just another part - not thinking it would be a knock-off. It does appear to be one though as it doesn't line up with anything when compared side by side with the one I already have. Anyway - I just ordered a new one from amazon and I'm sending this one back. Thanks for the help all!
