I have also got the new 24-120 f4 AF-S for the D800 but it is not nearly as good as my other FX lenses and at 24mm there is serious vignetting in the corners.
I have the f/3.5 version of that lens and had to put a very thin or no UV filter to eliminate vignette at 24mm. My ring flash has the problem below 50mm.
