This new crossover is for the DSLR with mirror and pentaprism/Optical Viewfinder into the Electronic ViewFinder (EVF) which will provide us with better functionality once the EVF displays become as good as the OVFs.
This will result in the ability to have fully functional DSLR cameras with functionality similar to the Fuji XE1/2 cameras but with a third of the weight of the DSLR and no mirror to clack up and down or huge pentaprism bump.
Maybe even more radical...with only pros and serious amateurs wanting a 'camera shaped' camera and supplementary lenses.
Everyone else will just have phone/ tablet cameras.
Logically the average person doesnt need/want anything more than a small device that gives 28-100mm (FF equivalent) so that is fairly easy to provide.
Then for the more serious user there is the camera shaped thingy with interchangeable lenses.
