Its hard not to draw the conclusion that Nikon havent got their future market mapped out correctly. Everyone has a smartphone that now takes photos comparable with a D1...maybe even models that WE only a short period ago, regarded as serious photographic tools. The report, I recently linked, about modern image quality requirements changing, rings a few alarm bells. Although we DSLR diehards may be keeping the Nikons afloat for the moment, in a few years there wont be sufficient dedicated followers. Just watching a tv report about the state of UK high street shops and the government are surprised? Duh. We've known for years that Internet shopping would do this...why is it such a surprise? Why does it need a special committee to investigate it? The same is happening with photography. The serious amateur market will start to contract significantly in the not too distant future. Sad but true.
