Also How do I set it up to take the highest resolution pictures? When I blow the pictures up they are blurry. Cant use them on website.

I have a Nikon D90. Really don't know how to use it. I keep it on auto. Recently When I download my pictures I get two of each picture one in a NEF and One in JPEG. How can I get it to stop doing this? Also How do I set it up to take the highest resolution pictures? When I blow the pictures up they are blurry. Cant use them on website.
