The light reflects from the glass sensor cover/hot mirror filter onto the rear element of the lens, and back, repeatedly, if you are familiar with audio you will have heard of feedback squeal, lens hotspots might be described as an optical equivalent. There are several of us here on the forum who take IR photographs, if you do decide to have a go, I am sure we can give you some guidance.
