Sounds like a lot of lens for the money, but have you looked at the 28-300?

It's more money, but more range. I've been very satisfied with it except for relatively slow focus (not like the old 80-400 but not like the 70-200 either)

I guess it all depends on what kind of travelling you are doing - for trips that are just "tourist" trips, I want small, light bodies and lenses (or lens) and will be willing to let my feet do the zooming like the good old days :-).

If you are really going to be shooting a lot, then bring in the zooms :-)
