I couldn't believe my eyes when my wife first showed me what she took in the dark with Canon's S95. All of the pictures were sharp and virtually noise free, and only showed a slight trace of noise reduction. However despite the aperture setting you can never blur the background adequately. I heard that Canon had filed a patent application about a new lens design that improves background blurring. Let's see if this helps.
