The remarkable thing is that I helped build this car in early 1982 with my friend who then ran it until it failed the MOT at the end of '88 with a log list of expensive faults. While I have been stripping it for rebuild I have seen and recognised many parts and remember fitting them!

It was the 18th Mk2 kit produced which was Morris Marina based, the earlier Mk 1 kits were Triumph Herald based. I have adapted this chassis to a hybrid which uses the Triumph front suspension and the other parts from the Marina, hopefully best of both.

I did the wiring and fitted the engine, painted it red, not such a bright red as this time!

Yes the K BMW conversion is a popular one but would make mine ineligible for class. It would push me into the top class without the significant gains in performance needed to compete at that level.

Most of the trials Marlins are at least 1800cc some even 3500, Rover (Buick) V8. In the interests of economy I have retained the small 'A' Series engine which is considerably lighter than the larger 'B' Series engine and not that far behind in power.

I have been lucky and found an overdrive transmission from a Dolomite 1850, which was a straight bolt in job. I don't know if the o/d works yet...
