We don't. I have been beating this drum for ages but people keep buying higher and higher Mp cameras so Nikon thinks that's good for business and keep making them. That has to be good for business. In practical terms ultra high def is only needed if images are to be taken to bill board sized prints and retain good detail. I will admit my 2.7Mp D1 was a bit low res, but only if you wanted small crops. Otherwise the 2.7Mp camera is still capable of good images, I have some large prints from the D1 which are fine. For the first year or so after I got my D200 I set the resolution to about 5Mp because it was too big a jump for me all thew way from 2.7 to whatever the D200 does at full res, I can't even remember, all I know is the output is good enough for what I want.
