Another idea - use fishing line to suspend between tree / post and house / another tree / post - as long as the feeder is high enough and far enough away from trees it should be squirrel proof - the line will be too thin and wobbly for them - could also reel it in on pulleys to refil feeder from upstairs window????
Squirrel deterrent up date:
The plastic dome does work! No squirrel has been able to navigate the wobbly perspex canopy and they seem to have lost interest in that feeder.
Unfortunately, the blackbirds and Doves, having learnt how to hover flapping and grab seeds, are not happily frequenting the squirrel free zone!!!!!!
So the little birds are STILL obstructed ...now by flapping bigger birds.
Time to add a wire cage round the feeder
