The 18-55 is NOT good for IR but is great in normal use.
I looked back at my notes on all my lens testing from 2011 (!!) and you are right! I was amazed I kept the info....not like me at all.
I cheated ....went to WEX with my D200IR and under the pretext of buying a lens tried quite a few. The guy in there didn't know anything about IR, so I said I needed to look at the files on my PC before deciding the best....it was the cheaper consumer 18 - 135 lens.
