I've always thought that story to be implausible. 'Sorry your majesty, we looked everywhere and couldn't find anythingâ€
Assuming he actually DID cross the marsh and lose his treasure chests. The local wildfowlers and bait diggers even now know these marshes like the back of their hands. Back then it would have been no different. They would have been out there on the next low tide to recover it for themselves. Gone in 60 seconds, like the film.
