Ultra fast lenses like the 'noct' have little to do with available light or ISO, especially in this age of incredibly high ISO. They tend to be used to create dreamy, ultra sharp images with wafer thin depth of focus. It's close to a non industrial version of the Nikor 'O' oscilloscope lens, which are almost unobtainable now.

It's an art thing, not appealing to the more formal or staid photographer. They can be used to great effect with focus stacking on the right subject. I wish I had the funds to obtain and skills needed to use such a lens. I have seen some wonderful examples of noct lens photography.

One of these days I will get one of the fast projector lenses and adapt a helicoid to the F mount, the cheap route to wafer thin dof for paupers. My appetite is wetted for ultra thin dof ! ðŸ˜ðŸ¤—ðŸ˜œ
