Can I expect the speed of the camera to increase with the newer cards compared to the older cards. Not that it really matters.

Will the new Sandisk ultra 2gb card work in a D-1 or do I need to get the older type that is called out in the Nikon website. Sandisk said the camera will only take a 2gb max but did not say if the newer ones will work or not. Can I expect the speed of the camera to increase with the newer cards compared to the older cards. Not that it really matters. Thanks Mark
