I think it is better than the D300. Closer to the D3 except for AF performance.
I should qualify this really.
The XPro1 is better than the X100 from a handling perspective however the IQ is very similar but the new layout in the XP1 CCD and its extra pixels improves its rendering, making it seem better.
The D300 can yield very good image quality in bright sunlight and also in low light up to ISO 2000. However at ISO 3200 it seems very grainy/noisy.
