Can't argue that electronics gear will depreciate as fast as anything. What to do? Deprive yourself because it won't be worth anything is few months? You can see where that logic would lead. At $500 a shot, the 60 mm Micro is not inexpensive. But if it will give years of service, despite any depreciation, than what is the issue? Heck, I still use a DVD player that we paid GOOD money for 10 years back. It's worthless now. A new one now would cost $100, and not be worth $10 once you leave the store. Of course this is assuming you do have the disposable income for such an outlay. I can't recommend you spend the rent money a camera lense.
