I think that the feel is different but that in fact is just a perception as the cameras now all tend to be built on a magnesium shell.
The professional cameras have a heavy duty shutter and weater resistant seals.
The biggest difference to me is the accessory socket with the professional cameras having the 10 pin socket compared to the less durable USB-like socket on the non-professional cameras.
Of course there may be differences between features up and down the range but this is reflected in the price differential between models.
