Robert-
iCloud doesn't require me to log in with my Apple ID, it requires that auto login to the mac itself be turned off (or I missed something). Do you use Auto Login on your mac?

I set the log in so long ago I forgot about it! LOL
I think I am using Auto Login although I hadn't realised it, I regarded it as 'No - Login'. Screen shot below...
The trouble with security is they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't!
